We're looking for an AI Tech Lead Manager (Platform) to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?
Flatiron Health is a healthtech company using data for good to power smarter care for every person with cancer, around the world. Flatiron partners with cancer centers in the US, Europe and Asia to transform patients' real-life experiences into real-world evidence and create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem. Our multidisciplinary teams include oncologists, data scientists, software engineers, epidemiologists, product experts and more. Flatiron Health is an independent affiliate of the Roche Group.
What You'll Do
We're seeking an AI Tech Lead Manager (Platform) to lead our Germany-based Global Platform Enablement team. This role will help evolve Platform from a primarily US-centered infrastructure organisation into a global enablement organisation that can support Flatiron's growing international footprint, AI-enabled workflows, and globally reusable builder experiences.
The Global Platform Enablement team will help bring UK, Germany, and Japan market requirements into Platform's designs while acting as a local execution and adaptation layer for globally reusable platform capabilities. This mirrors the strategy document's emphasis on expanding Platform toward global support, AI enablement, builder experience, and scalable operational excellence.
As the AI Tech Lead Manager (Platform), you will:
  • Lead and develop a UK- and Germany-based engineering team focused on AI enablement, platform engineering, developer experience, networking, data infrastructure, and regional platform support, fostering a strong local culture while maintaining alignment with global Platform teams.
  • Partner with US-based Platform leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to align regional execution with global strategy, establish clear operating models, and translate international business and regulatory needs into platform priorities.
  • Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives across engineering, product, security, and data science, driving alignment, prioritisation, and execution through influence and collaboration.
  • Define the technical direction for reusable AI platform capabilities, including AI workflows, orchestration, agentic systems, governance, and standards for secure, reliable, and scalable deployment.
  • Establish engineering best practices for AI-enabled systems, including evaluation, observability, reliability, cost management, incident response, operational ownership, and governance.
  • Guide architectural decisions across deterministic automation, single-agent, and multi-agent approaches, helping teams make pragmatic build-versus-buy and platform-versus-product decisions as AI technologies evolve.
  • Build team capability through hands-on technical leadership, coaching, experimentation, design reviews, and adoption of emerging AI technologies and engineering practices.
  • Drive operational excellence by promoting sustainable support models, documentation, stakeholder communication, and clear decision-making while effectively communicating technical tradeoffs and uncertainty in a rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Who You Are
You're an experienced engineering leader who can lead across ambiguity, distance, and domain boundaries. You are comfortable managing engineers whose day-to-day work may sit in different technical areas, and you know how to create clarity without over-centralising every decision.
You understand that this role is partly technical leadership, partly people leadership, and partly organisational connective tissue.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, AI/ML infrastructure, developer experience, or a related technical field, including 3+ years leading engineers as a people manager, Tech Lead Manager, or senior technical lead.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives, with a collaborative leadership style that builds strong partnerships across organizational boundaries.
  • Strong technical foundation in platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, Kubernetes, networking, data platforms, developer platforms, or AI/ML infrastructure, with the ability to guide architectural decisions across traditional software, AI workflows, and agentic systems.
  • Experience building high-performing engineering teams that improve developer productivity, operational reliability, safety, and long-term maintainability.
  • Knowledge of AI orchestration, multi-agent systems, and governance, including agent coordination, reliability, identity, permissions, auditability, human oversight, and applying sound judgment when choosing between deterministic, single-agent, and multi-agent solutions.
  • A product-minded, enablement-focused approach with excellent communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.

Optional
  • Experience leading Platform, SRE, infrastructure, or developer experience teams in globally distributed engineering organisations.
  • Experience with AI enablement, LLM infrastructure, MLOps, AI observability, AI evaluation workflows, or internal developer platforms such as Backstage or Port.io.
  • Hands-on experience with modern platform technologies including AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Spacelift, GitLab CI/CD, Databricks, Datadog, Splunk, or similar tooling.
  • Experience working in regulated industries (such as healthcare or life sciences) or building operating models that align regional engineering teams with centralized platform organisations.

Who We Are
Our people are at the center of everything we do. We strive to foster a culture where our teammates feel equipped and empowered to make meaningful contributions with confidence, compassion, and clarity.
