Role overview:

Start your career as an Actuarial Graduate in Reserving at Hastings Direct. We’re looking for a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual to join our Group Actuarial Function. You will help estimate the cost of future claims for our Motor and Household insurance portfolios while developing strong actuarial and analytical skills. The function includes both Reserving and Capital Modelling teams, providing exposure to Solvency UK requirements. You will also contribute to the development of modern actuarial tooling, including Python and AI-driven solutions to automate processes and enhance analysis.

In this role, you will support the production of monthly and quarterly reserving analyses, including maintaining claims development triangles and contributing to the estimation of IBNR and ultimate claims costs using established actuarial techniques such as Chain Ladder and Bornhuetter-Ferguson. You will analyse and interpret trends in claims experience, working with large datasets through SQL to ensure robust and accurate outputs. Alongside this, you will help build and maintain reserving models and develop Python-based tools to enhance analysis and automate processes. There will also be opportunities to explore AI-enabled solutions and agent-based workflows to improve efficiency and insight generation. In addition, you will support capital reporting activities and develop an understanding of key capital drivers, while collaborating closely with teams across Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance to deliver joined-up, data-driven insights.

Requirements:

  • A numerical or actuarial degree with first class (or predicted first class) honours.
  • High analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Understanding of actuarial concepts.
  • Experience in data analysis or coding, preferably in Python and SQL
  • Interest in Python for modelling and automation.
  • Interest in AI and advanced analytics workflows.

Upon application, you will be sent out a link to complete some psychometric assessments through a platform called Harver, please complete these ASAP but before the closing date of the 19th of July.

Reward:

When you join Hastings Direct, you’ll be making a real contribution to our success. You deserve to share in that success, so alongside a competitive and flexible salary, we offer a benefits package that recognises and rewards your part in our growth.
