Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The Role

In this role, you will work closely with clients, insurers and internal teams to deliver exceptional service, manage renewal and new business activity, prepare high-quality market documentation, and identify opportunities to develop business and enhance our offering. The successful candidate will be an organised and collaborative individual with strong communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Whilst insurance experience would be beneficial, it is not essential. We are also keen to hear from candidates with construction industry experience who are looking to develop a career in insurance, with full training and support provided to build the technical knowledge required for the role.

What you’ll do

  • Proactively manage and respond to day-to-day client enquiries, escalating where appropriate.

  • Finalise renewal questionnaires and underwriting submissions.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and market contacts.

  • Create and implement a structured and organised market approach strategy.

  • Coordinate and manage relationships with other service providers across Howden.

  • Attend and contribute to UKC team meetings.

  • Complete all required risk reduction modules and mandated CPD hours.

  • Achieve annual Workday goals and objectives.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is completed to a high standard and peer reviewed.

  • Develop a detailed knowledge of UKC insurance products and the UKC value proposition.

  • Build a strong understanding of the UKC USP and how it differentiates the business in the market.

  • Attend industry events, seminars, training sessions, and Howden events, sharing key learnings with the team.

  • Complete relevant industry qualifications and maintain professional development.

  • Manage Account Handlers to ensure documentation is prepared and delivered in a timely manner.

  • Finalise MRC documents, endorsements, and policy amendments.

  • Complete Renewal Strategy reports, Renewal Quote reports, and compliance documentation.

  • Review and approve insurer-issued documentation prior to issuance.

  • Execute policy amendments and endorsements accurately and efficiently.

  • Oversee Account Handlers and delegate workloads as required.

  • Monitor workflow progress to ensure timely processing and delivery of client documentation.

  • Ensure client documentation is issued accurately and within agreed timeframes.

Who we’re looking for

  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to oversee workflows, delegate responsibilities effectively, and ensure high standards of client service are consistently delivered.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with clients, insurers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and take ownership of tasks from inception through to completion.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Previous insurance experience is welcomed but is not essential. We are equally interested in individuals with relevant construction industry experience, such as those from project management, engineering, surveying, consultancy, or contractor backgrounds.

  • An interest in developing a career within insurance, with a willingness to learn the technical aspects of the industry. Full training, support, and opportunities for professional development will be provided to help build insurance knowledge and expertise.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and contributing to the success of the wider team.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs.  Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

*Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.
