Alphawave, a British designer of semiconductor tech for data centers, is set to be acquired by Qualcomm, a U.S. chipmaker, in a $2.4 billion deal that’s part of Qualcomm’s push into the artificial intelligence data center market.

According to reporting by The Business Times, the increasing reliance on in-house processors for iPhones has prompted Qualcomm to shift focus away from the smartphone industry and toward other sectors, including data centers and personal computers.

The deal is expected to be finalized in early 2026.
