To support this mission, we are seeking an influential and strategic leader to drive collaboration, a unified approach across teams and scale our global business by enhancing finance operations.

The VP Financial Operations will manage a team of 90 SumUppers across ERP (SAP), Accounting Operations, Controlling, and Internal Controls, reporting directly to the Global CFO. This key leadership role will develop teams’ capabilities, improve cross-functional alignment and strengthen connectivity across different finance and business functions by taking a holistic approach.

Ideally, this position will be based in Sofia. You can review our Sofia office here to get a sense of the working environment. We are also open to candidates who are willing to frequently travel to Sofia and based in our Berlin or London offices.

What you’ll do

  • Build a culture of collaboration and cross-functional alignment by strengthening connectivity between finance teams, multiple markets, and entities, ensuring seamless coordination and information flow.
  • Drive strategic enhancement by identifying and implementing improvements in financial operations, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and alignment with SumUp’s global growth strategy.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement, empowering teams to drive innovation, adopt best practices, and actively shape SumUp’s future through the use of cutting-edge technology.
  • Act as a key advisor to leadership, providing financial and operational insights to the CFO and senior stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.
  • Coach, lead, and inspire finance leaders across various expertise areas, fostering an environment where finance professionals at all levels feel a strong sense of belonging and engagement.
  • Implement clear frameworks that enhance working methods, drive operational excellence, and create meaningful business results to enable teams to amplify their impact.
  • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership to align financial operations with business strategy, and establish KPIs to assess financial performance and operational efficiency.

You’ll be great for this role if:

  • You have managed multiple functions ideally in finance and accounting in financial services or another regulated industry, in a publicly listed environment.
  • You have enhanced culture, and processes in complex international environments with multiple markets and entities.
  • You have a strong knowledge of global financial regulations and standards (IFRS/GAAP).
  • You have exceptional people leadership skills and can develop your team members’ skills through coaching.
  • You are a strategic leader with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across different teams.
