About Hypervolt Limited

Hypervolt builds intelligent, connected energy infrastructure for the electrified home and grid. Our ecosystem spans consumer EV charging hardware, real-time cloud platforms, data and analytics, and customer-facing applications.

Our products include:

  • Home 3 Pro — Hypervolt’s flagship EV charger
  • UltraGrid — our proprietary cloud operating system for connected energy assets
  • Hypervolt Mobile App & Ultra Mode
  • Watson — remote diagnostics and customer support automation

Together, these platforms ingest and process billions of telemetry events per day, enabling low-latency control, advanced analytics, and future grid services.

The Role

We’re looking for a highly experienced VP Engineering to lead Hypervolt’s cloud, platform, data, and application engineering functions. Reporting to the CTO, this role is responsible for engineering execution, reliability, and scale across Hypervolt’s cloud-based systems, while working in close collaboration with the hardware and firmware teams to unlock device capability through the cloud.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who can operate strategically while remaining deeply engaged in technical direction and delivery.

Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and scale engineering teams across cloud infrastructure, backend services, data platforms, and applications.
  • Translate company and product strategy into clear engineering roadmaps and execution plans.
  • Own delivery, quality, reliability, and operational excellence across cloud and application platforms.
  • Establish strong technical ownership, delivery cadence, and engineering standards.
Cloud Platform & UltraGrid
  • Provide technical leadership across Hypervolt’s AWS-based microservices architecture.
  • Own the evolution and reliability of UltraGrid, Hypervolt’s cloud operating system for connected assets.
  • Ensure low-latency, bi-directional control and automation of devices at scale.
  • Drive platform scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
Data, Streaming & Analytics
  • Oversee large-scale telemetry ingestion via highly available MQTT brokers handling 6+ billion messages per day.
  • Guide streaming pipelines using Apache Pulsar and data storage across DynamoDB and Google BigQuery.
  • Enable high-fidelity time-series analytics, machine learning, and forecasting at scale.
  • Ensure robust handling of offline data replay and reconciliation.
Collaboration with Hardware & Firmware
  • Work closely with hardware and firmware engineering teams to:
    • Define clear cloud–device interfaces and contracts.
    • Enable new device capabilities through cloud services and control systems.
    • Support OTA workflows, diagnostics, and remote configuration.
  • Ensure cloud platforms fully support the Home 3 Pro product lifecycle, from installation through long-term operation.
  • Partner to reduce field failures and warranty costs through remote diagnostics and automation (Watson).
Applications & Customer Experience
  • Oversee backend systems supporting the Hypervolt mobile app and Ultra Mode.
  • Ensure real-time changes and device controls sync seamlessly with customer-facing applications.
  • Support operational tooling and customer support workflows through Watson.
Reliability, Scale & Operations
  • Own cloud platform reliability, uptime, observability, and incident response.
  • Drive best practices in testing, monitoring, and resilience.
  • Balance rapid product delivery with long-term platform health and technical debt management.
People, Culture & Organisation
  • Build, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering leaders and teams.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and customer focus.
  • Act as a senior technical leader and trusted partner across the business.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Senior engineering leadership experience (Director / VP level) in cloud and platform engineering.
  • Strong background in distributed systems and AWS-based architectures.
  • Experience operating real-time, event-driven systems at significant scale.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with hardware and firmware teams.
  • Track record of building and scaling engineering organisations.
  • Strong technical judgment and delivery focus.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with IoT, connected devices, or edge-to-cloud systems.
  • Experience with telemetry, time-series data, or control systems.
  • Familiarity with energy, EV charging, or grid-connected platforms.
  • Exposure to ML and analytics platforms at scale.

What Success Looks Like

  • Cloud platforms reliably enable and extend device capability.
  • UltraGrid scales efficiently at massive data volumes with low latency.
  • Hardware, firmware, and cloud teams operate as a cohesive system.
  • New features move quickly from device capability to customer value.
  • Engineering delivery is predictable, resilient, and high quality.

What We Offer

  • A senior leadership role at the centre of Hypervolt’s platform strategy.
  • Ownership of cloud systems operating at real-world, grid scale.
  • Close partnership with the CTO and senior leadership team.
  • The opportunity to build infrastructure that shapes the future of energy.
