THE TEAM & THE JOB
Our Engineering team is the engine behind Crunch, our fast-growing SaaS platform used by market research professionals worldwide. We build and scale the tools that power survey creation, panel management, data pipelines, and analytics delivery, enabling our customers to find answers faster and with greater confidence. The team operates across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure, with a strong culture of craft, ownership, and collaboration.
We are looking for a VP of Engineering to lead this team through our next phase of transformation. Reporting directly to the Chief Scientist Officer you will own the technical vision and partner closely with Product, Data, and Commercial teams to deliver an exceptional platform. This is a hands-on leadership role for a builder who combines technical depth with commercial acumen and a genuine passion for developing people.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Define and execute the engineering strategy across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure, setting a high bar for engineering culture, delivery, and operational excellence.
Hire, develop, and retain exceptional engineers and engineering managers, fostering a culture of psychological safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate closely with the CPO and Product team to translate roadmap priorities into reliable, scalable delivery, bringing an opinionated technical voice to product strategy.
Own the technical architecture of a multi-tenant SaaS platform handling large-scale research data pipelines, survey infrastructure, and analytics delivery.
Ensure the platform meets enterprise-grade SLA, security, and data privacy requirements (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 27001), leading incident response culture and processes.
Manage the engineering budget, headcount planning, and vendor relationships to optimise cost, velocity, and quality across the organisation.
Participate in cross departmental projects and in senior leadership meeting, representing engineering externally with customers, partners, investors, and prospective hires.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (TECHNICAL & BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS)
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. MBA or other advanced degrees are a plus.
10+ years in software engineering, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles managing teams of 20 or more people across multiple disciplines.
Proven track record scaling B2B SaaS platforms, ideally in data-heavy, analytics, or research technology products.
Strong command of cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), microservices architecture, data pipelines, and modern API design.
Experience as a manager of managers, with the ability to build and coach layered engineering organisations through periods of rapid growth.
Fluency in data engineering, AI engineering practices, and AI/ML integration, with the ability to make informed architectural decisions in data-heavy product contexts.
Commercially minded and able to balance technical idealism with pragmatism — you understand that shipping great software on time matters as much as the quality of the architecture.
Excellent communicator who can engage confidently with engineers, executives, and enterprise customers alike, and who builds trust quickly across the organisation.
Desirable:
Proven track record of delivering complex software products on time and within budget.
Background in market research, survey platforms, consumer insights, or panel management technology.
Prior experience leading SOC 2, ISO 27001, or GDPR compliance programmes in a SaaS environment.
This is a Remote role for candidates based in any of the following countries: UK, Spain, France, Poland & Italy
