THE OPPORTUNITY
Leads the Bank’s enterprise database function and is accountable for the strategy, design, implementation, security, availability, performance, lifecycle management, operational support, and auditability of Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server environments. In partnership with management, develops approved database strategies and drives their execution through measurable roadmaps, standards, governance, and delivery commitments. Manages internal database staff and external service providers, supports critical production and non-production platforms, and ensures database services meet business, regulatory, audit, resiliency, and service-level requirements. Remains technically engaged and provides authoritative direction for modernization, patching, upgrades, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, automation, capacity, licensing, and risk reduction across the database estate. Performs all duties in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the Company operates.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Own and execute the Bank’s enterprise database strategy for Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server, translating management-approved direction into funded roadmaps, architecture standards, lifecycle plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
- Lead, develop, assign work to, and hold accountable internal database administrators and contracted resources, establishing priorities, on-call coverage, performance expectations, development plans, succession readiness, and effective knowledge transfer.
- Provide technical and operational leadership for production and non-production Oracle and SQL Server environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migration, consolidation, retirement, and platform modernization.
- Establish and enforce database architecture, engineering, naming, configuration, change, release, documentation, and operational standards across both platforms.
- Maintain an authoritative inventory of database instances, versions, editions, ownership, criticality, dependencies, licensing, configurations, support status, recovery objectives, and infrastructure placement.
- Direct database security and control practices, including least privilege, privileged access, encryption, service-account governance, vulnerability remediation, security auditing, segregation of duties, and evidence retention in partnership with Information Security and Risk.
- Ensure all database changes follow approved change-management, testing, validation, rollback, and post-implementation review requirements.
- Review or approve high-risk and production database changes within delegated authority.
- Define monitoring, alerting, capacity, performance, availability, and service-level standards, using operational metrics and trend analysis to identify risk, eliminate recurring incidents, and improve reliability.
- Direct backup, restore, recovery, replication, high-availability, and disaster-recovery capabilities for Oracle and SQL Server.
- Validate recovery procedures through scheduled testing against approved recovery time and recovery point objectives.
- Oversee Oracle technologies such as RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, Automatic Storage Management, Enterprise Manager, SQL, and PL/SQL, as applicable to the Bank’s architecture.
- Oversee SQL Server technologies such as Always On availability groups, failover clustering, SQL Server Agent, Transparent Data Encryption, Query Store, backup and restore, Transact-SQL, and SQL Server Management Studio, as applicable to the Bank’s architecture.
- Lead major incidents and complex problem resolution involving database services, coordinating technical response, executive communications, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and the elimination of repeat failures.
- Partner with application, infrastructure, cloud, storage, network, cybersecurity, architecture, business continuity, and vendor teams to deliver secure, supportable solutions and ensure database requirements are incorporated early in project design.
- Own database audit readiness and control execution, manage relationships with internal and external auditors, and deliver complete, accurate, and timely evidence and remediation plans.
- Manage database vendors, support agreements, licensing position, renewals, statements of work, service quality, escalations, and financial commitments.
- Identify cost-optimization and risk-reduction opportunities.
- Promote appropriate automation, standardized runbooks, repeatable health checks, and self-service capabilities that improve control, speed, and operational consistency.
- Provide management with clear reporting on database health, operational risk, technical debt, lifecycle exposure, resource needs, project delivery, incidents, audit issues, and strategic progress.
- Maintain current architecture diagrams, support procedures, configuration baselines, recovery runbooks, escalation paths, and knowledge articles for all material database services.
- Participate in after-hours support, maintenance, disaster-recovery exercises, and incident escalation as required for critical banking services.
- Participate in interviewing and hiring decisions.
- Prepare and deliver employee performance evaluations, goal planning, and counseling.
- Manage, support, coach, and train employees.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Minimum eight years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise production database environments, including substantial hands-on administration of Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Prior team leadership or people-management experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of Oracle and supported Microsoft SQL Server releases, including architecture, installation, patching, upgrades, migration, security, performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and high availability.
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute database strategy, lifecycle roadmaps, technical standards, risk-remediation plans, and multi-year modernization initiatives in alignment with management direction.
- Experience operating highly available, business-critical database services with documented service levels, disciplined change management, incident and problem management, tested recovery capabilities, and 24-hour support requirements.
- Strong knowledge of database security, encryption, privileged-access controls, vulnerability management, regulatory compliance, audit support, evidence production, and remediation tracking within a financial-services or similarly regulated environment.
- Experience managing employees, consultants, managed-service providers, vendor escalations, software licensing, support renewals, budgets, and statements of work.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems, enterprise storage, virtualization, networking, identity services, cloud database services, and automation or scripting technologies.
- Ability to communicate technical risk, alternatives, cost, and business impact clearly to executives, auditors, technology teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, lead complex incident response, prioritize competing demands, and hold teams accountable for timely, controlled delivery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and responsibility for compliance with applicable banking laws, regulations, Bank policies, information-security standards, and internal controls relevant to the position.
- Oracle, Microsoft, cloud, ITIL, project-management, or process-improvement certifications preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Advanced business or technology education preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.

The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.
