Role Title – VP of Application Engineering

Role Overview: This role is focused on developing and optimizing the systems that enable teams to drive growth effectively. Rather than managing teams directly, the person in this role acts as a technical partner to both engineering and revenue teams, ensuring that tools, workflows, and intellectual property (IP) are developed and maintained to maximize impact. Success in this role is measured by the effectiveness of the systems, and the creation of IP that provides a sustainable competitive advantage. The role reports to the Group COO, to ensure alignment with the functional teams the role partners with.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop scalable systems and processes that empower teams to achieve growth objectives.

· Develop platform architectures using OEM drives, switchgear and if required motors to drive scalable system architectures for effectiveness of deployment & installation, and cost efficiency to leverage supply chain channels

· Identify and develop strategic regional system integrators and subcontractors that work seamlessly with Energy Drive Engineering, PMO and Operations to deploy and commission product solutions effectively, with speed and to expected costs.

· Partner closely with engineering and revenue teams to align technical capabilities with business goals.

· Take ownership of the effectiveness, adoption, and impact of tools and workflows across teams.

· Drive the development of proprietary processes and IP that differentiate the organization in the market.

· Continuously evaluate and improve operational efficiency, ensuring teams can execute at peak performance.

Key Performance Areas:

· Technical systemization & solution digitalization:-

Develop and support deployment scalable solution architectures, engineering modules, and standardised playbooks that transform bespoke industrial client applications into repeatable, high-quality solutions.

· % of projects delivered using standardised solution packages

· ESE/ Project Engineering effort per project and per £ revenue

· Adoption of standardised modules across ESE and Project Engineering teams

· Creation and maintenance of reusable design libraries and workflows

· Intellectual property & technical differentiation:-

Build and maintain proprietary modelling, simulation, and performance verification methodologies that provide a clear competitive advantage.

· Number of proprietary methodologies, algorithms, or IP assets developed

· Projected vs measured energy performance variance across projects

· % of solution modules or processes protected as differentiating IP

· Automated modelling workflows and libraries deployed globally

· Process & workflow enablement for Technical Sales:-

Design and optimise the processes and tools that allow technical sales, project engineers, and product engineers to deliver solutions efficiently and at scale.

· % of opportunities using automated feasibility assessments or technical tools

· Reduction in proposal generation time for technical solutions

· Adoption and usage rates of internal tools and workflows

· Standardisation of project delivery processes and methodologies

· Technical sales enablement:-

Develop technical tools, templates, and processes that enable the revenue team to accurately and efficiently evaluate, sell, and scope energy efficiency and decarbonisation solutions.

· Proposal cycle time reduction and accuracy of technical assumptions

· % of revenue opportunities supported by standardised technical tools

· Improvement in win rates linked to technical enablement

· Training and documentation effectiveness for technical sales support

· Digital & automation enablement:-

Drive the implementation of digital tools, platforms, and automation pipelines that standardise and accelerate modelling, project delivery, and performance tracking.

· Automation coverage across energy modelling, proposal generation, and delivery workflows

· Reduction in manual effort and spreadsheet-based processes

· Reliability and adoption rates of digital engineering platforms

· Time saved and productivity improvements attributable to toolchain implementation


Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy systems, mechanical, electrical, or a related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

· 15+ years in technical leadership, solution architecture, or industrial energy systems delivery.

· Proven track record of creating scalable technical platforms, IP, and enablement systems in complex, multi-region environments.

· Deep understanding of industrial energy systems, decarbonisation technologies, energy modelling, and measurement & verification.

· Demonstrated ability to translate technical expertise into tools and processes that enable teams to deliver at scale.

· Strong quantitative, systems thinking, and process design skills to develop repeatable solutions and measure their effectiveness.
