We anticipate the successful candidate being based in London, UK.
Reuters is seeking a creative editor with impeccable news judgment, spellbinding storytelling skills and a thirst and aptitude for innovation to produce engaging and ground-breaking visual investigations. The visual investigations editor will direct multimedia teams in the use of innovative storytelling techniques to present our investigation journalism. This editor must have the ability to direct not just the look and feel of a visual investigation but also, critically, the conception, reporting and bullet-proofing of it.

The successful candidate will possess a keen sense of which stories most lend themselves to creative forms of visual storytelling that grab the viewer and won’t let go. These will include stories spun quickly off the news and deeper, ambitious investigations that take weeks or months to execute.
About the Role

As Visual Investigations Editor, you will:

  • Work with reporters and editors across our global newsroom. You will marshal the right assortment of text and data reporters, OSINT enthusiasts, videographers, photographers and graphics journalists, ensuring their collaborations produce engrossing and flawlessly executed visual tours-de-force.

  • Report via multiple disciplines. It may include analyzing satellite imagery, geolocating video, assigning video or photographs to timelines, conceiving interactive graphics or illustrated animations, and old-fashioned shoe-leather work or documents-driven reporting. You will have enough skills or know-how in enough of these specialties to ensure our work is unimpeachable.

  • Turn out cogent and well-written prose to pair with high-quality visual work.

  • You also should feel comfortable collaborating as a co-equal with other world-class editors skilled in investigative reporting, visual storytelling and news design.

About You
To be our Visuals Investigations Editor, you will likely have:

  • Demonstrable experience in producing ambitious, high-impact investigative stories (above and beyond any other experience you have in journalism and related fields.)

  • Advanced open-source reporting skills - such as satellite imagery analysis, social media verification, geolocation and other forensic analyses of digital information.

  • Proven expertise in presenting the findings of a visual investigation, whether as video, animation, or graphical visualization.

  • An eagerness to embrace data and an understanding of how it can deepen and enhance our storytelling.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • An ability to foster collaboration among geographically disparate teams of varied technical skills.

  • Openness to new forms of storytelling and comfort working at the forefront of a rapidly transforming field.

  • A record of innovation and a drive to try new things.

We realize few people – if any – will possess all of these qualities. We encourage strongly qualified candidates to apply even if they don’t check each and every box.
Please Note: Completed applications must be submitted by 23:59 on Wednesday 2nd April 2025. Early applications are encouraged.
