We are looking for a video producer to work on our politics podcasts. You will work alongside executive producers and hosts to plan, film and edit episodes of Politics Weekly UK and produce content for our social feeds and other shows as required. You will help visualise exclusive interviews, such as our sit down with Wes Streeting, you’ll also go on the road for by-elections such as in Makerfield, and make social videos for big political moments and to promote our own journalism.

 

This is a part-time 12-month fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment, working four days per week, Monday to Thursday.

 

About the role

  • Working as part of the team which produces the Guardian’s always-on Politics Weekly UK podcast
  • Generating ideas for podcast episodes, researching, briefing presenters and guests for interviews, filming in studio or remotely, scripting, editing and mixing to professional standards on tight deadlines
  • Booking on-air contributors, both internal and external
  • Working closely with the other producers, executive producers and hosts to guarantee the highest levels of creativity, editorial and legal standards
  • Playing an active part in the Guardian’s multimedia team and looking for opportunities to showcase our journalism and values in audio and video form
  • Contributing to and producing other Guardian podcasts and video or social video projects as required
  • Working with other Guardian departments including marketing and membership, where required, to assist discoverability and promotion of podcasts

 

About you

  • At least two years’ experience of working in video podcasting or broadcast news 
  • Experience with Adobe audio and video editing software, and the ability to edit smoothly and accurately at pace
  • Experience in analysing and responding to audience data such as YouTube analytics
  • Ability to write engaging scripts and bring the best out of on-air contributors
  • An interest and knowledge of UK and global politics is essential
  • Experience in working in video studios with multiple cameras is desirable
  • An interest in and understanding of Guardian journalism, Guardian podcasts and global Guardian audiences
  • Proven capacity to deliver high-quality outputs under strict, recurring deadlines
  • Great journalistic instincts and editorial rigour
  • Knowledge and understanding of media law
  • Creativity – able to find new angles on major news stories 
  • Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role

We operate in a hybrid environment working at least three days a week from our offices in King’s Cross and Westminster in London.

 

The salary for this NUJ position starts from £51,661 full-time equivalent (i.e. £41,328 for part-time, four days per week), with a package commensurate with the skills, level of experience and responsibilities of the position.
