Vice President (GJA 17)/Director (GJA 18) ABS & Financial Institution Syndicate

An opportunity has become available to join the ABS & Financial Institutions (“FI”) Syndicate desk based in Brussels or London.

The New Joiner will functionally report to the Head of FI & ABS Syndicate. The person will actively contribute to the development and implementation of the overall GCM business strategy and ING business principles, including ING's Orange Code. The role will primarily provide coverage to European ABS issuers mainly in the Euro and Sterling markets, whilst also supporting the broader FI Syndicate desk.

The New Joiner will be responsible for the syndication and execution of DCM products, with a lead mandate on (i) publicly traded and pre-placed ABS transactions, whilst supporting the issuance of (ii) publicly traded bonds issued by FI issuers across the capital spectrum as well as (iii) liability management exercises, all of which across various currencies including but not limited to Euro and Sterling markets. This includes the cross-selling of related derivative products such as interest rate and / or cross currency swaps.

Background:

Global Capital Markets (“GCM”) is ING’s interface between the broader capital markets investor base and ING’s Wholesale banking clients. GCM aims to credibly and effectively originate, structure and distribute all forms of credit and selected equity to the broader institutional investor base. GCM comprises of Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Asset Securitisation, Equity Capital Markets (ECM) (a joint venture with Corporate Finance) and Capital Solutions. 

DCM advises financial institutions, sovereigns/supras/agencies and corporations on how to raise debt and capital funding through the issuance of debt securities. Leveraging Financial Markets’ global trading and sales distribution platform, the team arranges, prices and places such issues into the global capital markets. DCM provides debt financing services across the full range of issuance types: 

  • Investment Grade bonds
  • High Yield bonds
  • Emerging Market bonds
  • Schuldschein offerings (Europe)
  • US Private Placements
  • Specialty offerings (sub-debt/hybrids, convertibles)
  • Liability Management
  • Sustainability bonds

Asset Securitisation has two principal areas of focus: (i) commercial asset backed lending business that primarily utilises securitisation lending formats (ii) origination and structuring of ABS deals issued in the capital markets for mortgages, equipment, auto loans & leases, SME loans and consumer credit. Related hedging activity is undertaken in close co-operation with Financial Markets.

Working in a multi-disciplinary way, the team serves both ING and its relationship clients with end-to-end secured funding and securitisation solutions. This highly innovative team structure makes a very diverse work environment that brings together all banking skill sets and is a catalyst for creativity and efficient execution. Asset Securitisation is a global team consisting of over 30 FTE spread across Europe (The Netherlands, Germany and Ireland), US, Singapore and Australia.

The business has a clear focus on using the balance sheet with WB securitisation clients in a manner which can generate maximum value add and ABS fee income or other tangible fee income for Wholesale Banking.

Your responsibilities:

On the FI and ABS syndicate desk (as part of the broader GCM franchise), new bond transactions are being prepared, structured and distributed to the international investor market. The role involves daily contact with the Asset Securitisation and global DCM bond Origination teams as well as with the different sales & trading teams in Europe, the US & Asia and the legal teams. The person will take the lead in pitches and execution of ABS transactions, supporting also the overall FI transactions and play a crucial role in the growth of our FIG and ABS structuring, advisory and distribution proposition.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing clients with regular market updates and funding recommendations including timing and pricing indications
  • Work closely together with the Asset Securitisation and FIG Origination teams to originate new mandates
  • Maintain close contact with ABS clients as well as with key investors across the asset classes covered, whilst also supporting core FIG clients (particularly with overlap to ABS)

Your profile:

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree holder in Business/Finance/Economics or other relevant disciplines
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, with successful track record of origination, structuring and execution of large, complex public investment grade transactions in a fast-paced environment
  • Sense for business strategy and opportunity, based on relevant industry knowledge and markets expertise
  • Extensive product bond and ABS knowledge, technical expertise and execution skills is essential
  • Extensive contact base with investment grade financial issuers in EMEA would be a plus
  • Commercial drive and high level of self-motivation, combined with a well-developed risk awareness
  • Collaboration skills and ability to work across both functional and geographic lines
  • Stakeholder management and relationship skills
  • Ability to earn trust and respect of clients, colleagues and senior management based on authentic and confident communication skills
  • Knowledge of prevailing technical and regulatory changes that are impacting the industry to bring about changes necessary to compete effectively
  • Track record of contributing to the development of an effective credit value chain
  • Navigate ambiguity well and is culturally adaptable and sensitive
  • Strong commitment to ING’s Sustainability strategy
