Overview
The Commercial & New Payment Flows (CNPF) Risk Management team covers a group of businesses pursuing strategically significant target payment flows for Mastercard.
This role, in Mastercard's 1st line of defense Risk function, oversees and enhances CNPF Risk. The VP, will lead the team on ongoing risk management, enhancing our capabilities, and driving strategic risk projects that support CNPF strategic priorities and growth. They will participate as a subject matter expert in ensuring compatibility and suitable priority of our efforts in managing risk and supporting the growth of CNPF. They will lead a dynamic and experienced team of risk managers to coordinate multiple MA/CNPF Risk projects and engage stakeholders on dependencies beyond Risk.
Role and key responsibilities: • Lead and build out a comprehensive CNPF Risk Management capability supporting Commercial, SME, and Transfer Solutions businesses and aligned to our growth strategy.• Design and implement end-to-end risk frameworks (e.g., Risk identification and remediation, Issue management, RCSA, operational process mapping, embed controls)• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Functional Risk teams to embed and enhance risk management across the business and offerings and determine cross-cutting risk themes. • Engage stakeholders across the 3LoD, teams and regions as appropriate, leveraging broader MA Risk and 3LoD leadership, and link to broader MA-wide pieces of work• Identify, assess, and mitigate key risk types across CNPF covering the full risk taxonomy (e.g., operational resiliency, credit/settlement, fraud, AML, sanctions, third-party). Oversee remediation plans, working in close partnership with risk owners to deliver tangible risk reduction, meet target exposure and Audit findings.• Establish scalable governance models, risk policies, and decision forums to support strategic priorities, product and geographic expansion. • Leverage data, analytics, and automation to enhance risk detection, monitoring, and reporting across diverse payment flows and customer segments.• Provide executive-level insights, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior leadership and risk committees. • Manage the first line risk forum and provide ongoing oversight of our risk heatmap• Support incident response and escalation for material risk events impacting CNPF.• Develop and lead a high-performing global risk organisation with deep domain expertise in CNPF flows. • Drive thought leadership across CNPF Risk- opportunities to enhance and strengthen our capabilities, cross-cutting risk management themes.• Maintain awareness of broader risk and risk related priorities across the organisation, balancing key priorities and seek to adapt where appropriate.
All About You• Experience in risk transformation across various risk types, industries, organizations and/or geographies - both regulated and non-regulated.• Experience and knowledge of financial and non-financial risk management methods and frameworks• Learning and growth mindset to continually stay abreast of evolving risk management methods and frameworks• Experience of project / program management of risk initiatives that cut across the 3 lines of defense, risk reporting and data analytics.• Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary and globally disperse / diverse team with strong interpersonal skills.• Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills.• Pragmatic thinker who can distinguish timely, actionable, and effective actions and outcomes vs. complex/leading best practice.• Outcome oriented, proactive and hands-on approach.• Risk mindset - able to think outside the box and identify potential sources of risk, and their mitigation, and make decisions with available information.• Problem solving - able to develop / partner to develop effective solutions to problems at hand.• Strong negotiation and influencing skills, and proven ability to engage with executive management.• Knowledge of payments, card scheme, settlement and related operational and technological setup / processes preferred.
