Shape Your World

At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper & world-shaper.

As a leader at Alcoa, you can help fulfil our purpose and realize our vision to build a legacy of excellence for future generations. This is an opportunity to shape the future of energy across a global industrial business, influencing how Alcoa secures reliable, competitive and sustainable energy supply to support our operations and long-term strategy.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will lead Alcoa’s global energy organization and set the enterprise direction for energy strategy, commercial optimization and energy risk management across North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Australia. Working closely with senior leaders across Operations, Finance, Legal, Sustainability and regional teams to align regional priorities with Alcoa’s global strategy, you will create long-term commercial value and strengthen energy security across our operating footprint.
About the Role:
In this key senior leadership role, you will be accountable for shaping and executing Alcoa’s global energy strategy across electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and other energy commodities. You will provide strategic direction, commercial discipline and market insight to ensure Alcoa is well positioned now and for the future, in complex and evolving energy markets.
Other key accountabilities include:

  • Developing and executing Alcoa’s enterprise-wide energy strategy, including governance, frameworks, risk management and sustainability;
  • Leading global energy procurement, commercial negotiations, contracting strategies and supporting external stakeholder relationship management across regional energy markets;
  • Optimizing energy costs and supply arrangements to support operational competitiveness across Alcoa’s global portfolio;
  • Monitoring energy markets, regulatory change, geopolitical risk and emerging industry trends to inform strategic decisions and commercial opportunities;
  • Leading enterprise energy risk management, including market exposure, investment strategies, long-term supply planning and governance;
  • Supporting strategic growth, business development and potential acquisition integration activities, including preparation for the integration of assets into Alcoa’s global energy portfolio; and
  • Building capability, alignment and disciplined execution across a geographically dispersed global energy team.

What you can bring to the role:

As a commercially astute, purpose-driven and enterprise-minded energy leader with the ability to operate at scale, influence senior stakeholders and lead through complexity, you will bring deep market knowledge, strong judgement and the ability to translate insight into practical strategy and disciplined execution.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in energy procurement, energy markets, commodity management or commercial leadership within a global heavy industrial organization or electro-intensive industrial organization;
  • Deep understanding of electricity, natural gas, renewable energy and broader energy commodities, including regulatory frameworks, commercial contracting and supplier negotiations;
  • Proven capability in energy risk management, market analytics, commercial optimization and long-term supply planning;
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing geographically dispersed, multicultural teams and aligning regional execution with enterprise strategy;
  • Confident executive-level communication and influencing skills, with the ability to partner effectively with internal stakeholders;
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, business development or large-scale integration initiatives; and
  • Knowledge of the South African energy market, regulatory environment, commercial landscape and key stakeholders would be highly beneficial.

What’s on offer?
This is a rare opportunity to shape a globally significant energy portfolio and influence strategic decisions that directly support Alcoa’s competitiveness, sustainability ambitions and long-term value creation. You will work with senior leaders across the business, lead a global team, and play a critical role in positioning Alcoa for future growth in a dynamic energy landscape.
