Overview
This role is part of the 2nd line Risk function overseeing Corporate Functions (incorporating Product, Strategy and Commercial, Finance, Business Change, Legal, Compliance, People & Capability and Privacy) for Vocalink Limited, a company that enables the payments of 90% of salaries, 70% of utility bills, most ATM transactions and every cheque cleared in the UK.
The role holder will be part of a high functioning team, dedicated to delivering a robust, secure and resilient service to 60+million citizens every day with transactional volume of 11 billion/year and total annual transactional value in excess of GBP £6 Trillion.
The role holder will be responsible for developing the Corporate Functions’ risk strategy and delivery models to meet the growth needs of Vocalink and for meeting the requirements of our Corporate Functions’ core payments, covered by the Vocalink business model, including BACS, Faster Payments, Imaging Cheque System, LINK, etc.
The role holder will:
• Provide second line expertise and challenge around all aspects of Corporate Functions’-related risks
• Determine a risk strategy and implement policies and procedures to minimise Corporate Functions’ risk exposure and drive robust controls
• Support leadership, leveraging subject matter expertise regarding Corporate Functions’ risk principles and generally accepted industry (regulatory) standards and internal control requirements
• Drives and implements cross-functional initiatives on Corporate Functions’ risk goals, policies and procedures
• Provides challenge to the first line Programme Cabinet and Delivery Committee and provides a second line opinion to ERC and BRC on Vocalink’s risk profile
• Liaises with business partners to develop, manage and document best practices for Corporate Functions’ risk processes
• Manages and creates Corporate Functions’ risk strategies in order to optimise risk-related policies and regulations
• Oversees multiple internal and external project-based teams to implement Corporate Functions’ risk plans and reviews
• Embeds the Enterprise Risk Management Framework with respect to Corporate Functions risk, in particular, ensuring completeness and accuracy of: Inherent Risk Assessments, Control Standards, Adequacy and Design, Residual Risk, KPIs, Events and Root Cause Analyses and Horizon Scanning for New Threats
• Manage risk in a consistent manner and approach across Vocalink, with the 1st Line of Defence owning risks, the 2nd Line of Defence setting the standards of risk management and providing the review and challenge over those standards, and the 3rd Line of Defence providing the independent assurance of management of risk
• Embed a strong, continually developing risk culture, where managing risk is simply part of how we work
• Be aware of Vocalink’s risks, self-identify the most material risks, review and assess the inherent and residual risks, biggest risk exposures and any concentration of risk, to enable Vocalink to make better decisions as a result and not repeat any mistakes of the past
• Ensure sufficient controls are in place to manage Vocalink’s business safely, sustainably and within Board Risk Appetite.

All About You
Knowledge, Skills and Expertise Required:
• Risk experience in a Financial Institution
• A track record of embedding controls in a Financial Institution
• Relevant experience of working in a complex (preferably multi-national) stakeholder environment that includes complex customers and regulators
• Ability to articulate themselves clearly and concisely to a broad range of senior and junior stakeholders, acting as a bridge as well as guide for the implementation of new capabilities
• Strong influencing skills; organisationally savvy
• Experience working with regulators (Bank of England supervision)
• Experience of presenting and communicating at board level
• Communication - requires effective communication skills – both written and oral - to deal with large diverse customer base (internal and external)
• Problem solving – excellent investigative and analytical skills
• Customer focus – a passion for excellence
• Ethics – high standards of personal and professional ethics
• Highly motivated and conscientious individual
• Embodies and demonstrates all of the brand values required by Vocalink and Mastercard

• Experience within Critical National Infrastructure responsible organisations (desirable)
• Financial Services experience, ideally in regulated environments (UK, or overseas), particularly in payments and relevant infrastructure (desirable)
