Job Description

Purpose of the role

To create best in class user experiences that are aligned to customer needs and drive optimal commercial and customer outcomes. Creating products and journeys that meet customers informational, functional and emotional needs.  

Accountabilities

  • Conceptualisation, design and implementation of user-centric digital banking products and experiences, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry best practices and business objectives. Monitoring impact of design post launch through relevant CX metrics.   .
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams including product managers, developers, business analysts to translate business requirements into compelling user experiences. Efficiently communicate design rationale and advocate for user-centred design principles. Advocate and champion Design Principles within the organisation.   .
  • Development of interactive prototypes and wireframes to visualise design concepts and validate solutions. Iterate designs based on feedback, incorporating changing technical and business requirements and user feedback.   .
  • Evaluation of the technical feasibility, legal compliance, and potential risks associated with the development and launch of the new product. Securing governance oversite and providing design assurance.
  • User research, usability testing and data analysis to gather insights in user behaviour, preferences and pain points. Utilise findings to inform design decisions and enhance the over user experience and translate these into commercial and customer outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies and design tools within the fintech and banking industry. Proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in product design processes, tools and methodologies.

  • Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex / sensitive information.
  • Act as contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside team and external to the organisation.

As a UX/UI Designer, your purpose will be to craft first-class user experiences that simplify complex financial products and services for our customers (B2B and B2C) and colleagues. You’ll be part of the Barclays Insight & Experience Design team and will take ownership of end-to-end UX design projects, collaboratively creating intuitive, engaging journeys that address users’ informational and functional needs while delivering on business objectives.

To be successful as a UX/UI Designer, you should have skills and experience in the following:

  • Proven experience as a UX designer, evidenced in a portfolio of work

  • Be able to lead workshops, presentations and walkthrough sessions as required to explore business requirements, promote shared understanding, stakeholder buy-in and acceptance of all work.

  • Advanced skills and interest in the earlier phases of UCD process (requirements gathering, defining problems, mapping flows) and a passion for designing great products.

  • Can work collaboratively with UX researchers, other designers and copywriters, as well as stakeholders including product owners, business analysts and developers.

  • Able to clearly articulate design rationale and iterate work based on research insights and feedback.

  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including auto layout, components, design systems, and prototyping. 

Some other highly valued skills may include: 

  • Financial industry experience or experience working in a corporate environment is useful but not essential for this role – we are looking for the fundamentals of UX and strong craft and collaboration skills.

  • Accessible and inclusive design.

  • A passion to mentor junior designers.

  • A solid understanding of core digital technologies.

  • Experience in non-standard interface design (such as chat or voice).

This role can be based in Northampton, Manchester, or Knutsford.
