Job Description
JOB TITLE: UX Engineer - Design System (6-Month FTC)
LOCATION: London / Edinburgh / Manchester / Chester / Halifax
HOURS: Full-Time
DURATION: 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time in the office.
About the opportunity
Here at Lloyds Banking Group, we value customer centric experiences. Within the Commercial Banking design team, we are transforming how users experience their products and services. We’re on the lookout for a senior UX Engineer to join our creative team.
You’ll be leading the charge in transforming our experiences for business and commercial banking customers, ensuring production grade quality delivery coupled with delightful and accessible experiences.
Working in a multi-disciplinary design, product, and engineering team, you’ll be at the forefront of developing out the code libraries for the design system – for a key area of our business. You’ll also be supported by our wider Experience Design and Engineering communities.
A hybrid role operating between a developer and UX designer, you’ll be responsible for:

Planning and codifying components, templates or design patterns for our design and engineering communities. Working with user experience designers within the team, you’ll work cohesively to integrate your best-in-class engineering principles while adhering to latest design best practises. This will require taking prototypes and design within Figma and identifying common components and patterns that codify these in our design system for software engineers to access and use in their everyday work.

Program the front-end: use React, styled-components, or similar, to create interactive layouts, features, or execute other design ideas.

Collaborate with UX and engineering teams: As a professional with both design and programming abilities, act as the bridge between the two teams. Working with designers, back-end engineers, and writers to develop products and services.
Experience / Skills
This role is an intersection between a front-end software engineer and a web/UI designer and engineers. Experience/ skills required:

A solid understanding of programming fundamentals -Experience of coding in various such as HTML, CSS, Javascript.

A strong advocacy for UX, mastery at UI implementation - Experience of both working with UX designers and implementation of UX principles & practices in your work.

Bi-lingual in pixels and pointers

Prior experience of working on design systems – Developing tokens and theming to enable designs to be translated to variables, ensuring a seamless transition from design language to code.

Has worked in teams that use tooling such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite

Significant, proven experience as a UX Engineer or similar role (e.g. front-end software engineer), with proficiency in React, CSS and Figma libraries.

Excellent attention to detail, implementing and maintaining user interfaces with a passion for creating inclusive and accessible designs.

Write production-quality code with a strong focus on performance, maintainability and performance. Staying abreast of technology, elevating our design benchmarks.
What you’ll be doing

Work collaboratively with designers, engineers and Product owners to iterate designs and prototypes identifying and raising issues as early in the lifecycle as possible.

Acting as a bridge that ties design and engineering teams together.

Implementing UIs and writing production code

Integrating prototypes and design components/ design patterns into the software development life cycle.

Building tools to improve the UX process

Building inclusive products that delight users

Communicating the value provided to cross-functional partners

Staying current on tooling trends and disruptive technologies being deployed.

Advocating for content strategy, creative directions, and raising engineering complexities.
