The Underwriting Manager will manage a £120m GWP portfolio, lead strategic initiatives, improve underwriting quality, and develop team performance while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
You will take the lead on managing a significant portfolio of 380,000 customers with £120m GWP across our landlord and SME segments. This is a strategic role where you won't just maintain performance; you will define and own the portfolio strategy, ensuring we remain accountable for our processes and future success.
We are looking for a leader to drive forward large projects that support our MGA growth strategy. Working with us means championing the small business cause and ensuring we are seen as an honest, inclusive, and reliable insurance provider in everything we do.
As our Underwriting Manager, you’ll:
- Define and own the portfolio strategy, taking accountability for current and future performance.
- Build strong, credible relationships with internal stakeholders and external capacity providers to ensure high underwriting quality.
- Monitor claims performance, own the large loss process, and manage the referral process from our Contact Centre Technical Team.
- Lead, train, and develop the team to drive a culture of high performance and support individual growth.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory, compliance, and market practices.
- Lead our audit and peer review processes to ensure our high standards are consistently maintained.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Qualified as a chartered ACII (or holds an equivalent professional qualification).
- Experienced in portfolio management with a deep understanding of underwriting principles, ideally in commercial lines.
- A natural innovator who brings ideas to drive growth, improve efficiency, and launch products on new distribution channels.
- Excellent at problem-solving and analytics, comfortable making decisions with full underwriting authority.
- A strong communicator capable of delivering complex messages to a variety of people and cultivating strong relationships.
- Adept at staying up-to-date on industry trends, regulatory changes, and has exposure to the full insurance business.
(We know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap. You don’t have to match all the bullet points above to be considered for this role.)
We encourage people of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. We are committed to maintaining an inclusive, supportive place for you to be you and do your very best work.
