Job Description:

Location: Hybrid

What will you do?

  • Lead and support underwriters in their service delivery and development
  • Manage workload and priorities while promoting teamwork and a positive environment with employees in multiple locations. 
  • Develop and implement strategies and processes to improve underwriting efficiency, accuracy, and client experience
  • Resolve escalated cases and work with the nderwriting team to close gaps and enhance service
  • Using lean management concepts and methodology, identify areas for improvement and implement changes using problem solving activities
  • Collaborate with other key teams including Sales, Marketing and Client Service to ensure client satisfaction and improve overall operational performance
  • Be a key resource and champion for the success of projects, process changes, and training 
  • Develop, implement, maintain and monitor internal controls and governance of common and consistent processes across Underwriting

What do you need to succeed?

  • Experienced underwriter with background in Life and Critical Illness insurance
  • Willingness to pursue underwriting education and/or a professional underwriting background
  • Proven leadership experience with a focus on developing high-performing teams
  • A proven track records of driving operational excellence and process improvements in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Able to lead change and act as a change agent
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills (Tableau knowledge an asset)
  • Ability to interpret and apply numerous guidelines, reports, and data to manage and set priorities
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team

    The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
