We are looking for a passionate and proactive Traffic Engineer to join our growing Place and Movement team in London or Guildford.

Working alongside transport planners, engineers, urban designers and multidisciplinary specialists, you'll contribute to the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects for both public and private sector clients. Our team supports projects from concept design through to construction, delivering sustainable transport, public realm and highway solutions that improve the way people move through and experience places.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with 3+ years' experience in transport, highways or traffic engineering who is looking to further develop their technical expertise while working on high-profile projects across London, the South East and beyond.

You'll play a key role in the planning, design and delivery of schemes including public realm improvements, active travel infrastructure, highway enhancements, junction improvements, bus priority measures and transport-related developments.

Supported by experienced technical leaders, you'll be encouraged to develop professionally, take ownership of project tasks and work towards professional accreditation where applicable.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare transport and highway engineering designs from concept through to detailed design stages
  • Produce technical drawings, reports and supporting documentation in accordance with UK standards and industry guidance
  • Undertake transport, traffic and infrastructure assessments to inform project development
  • Contribute to the design of:
    • Public realm schemes
    • Active travel infrastructure
    • Bus infrastructure improvements
    • Highway and junction improvements
    • Section 278 works
    • Safety schemes and 20mph zones
    • Parking and streetscape projects
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines including structures, street lighting, landscape and utilities
  • Support site inspections, surveys and construction monitoring activities
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders throughout project delivery
  • Ensure projects are delivered to agreed quality standards, budgets and timescales
  • Contribute to proposals, business development activities and continuous improvement initiatives
What You'll Bring
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in transport, traffic or highways design
  • Strong technical understanding of urban realm, highway and traffic engineering principles
  • Experience delivering designs in accordance with UK design standards and codes of practice
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of highway construction methods, materials and specifications
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and communicate complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative approach with excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous learning
Desirable Experience
  • Experience using Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads
  • Postgraduate qualification in a transport-related discipline
  • Site supervision or construction monitoring experience
  • Experience preparing Bills of Quantities
  • Exposure to project or commercial management activities
  • Working knowledge of TfL standards and/or highway schemes across London and the South East
