We are seeking a Traffic and Safety Project Manager in our Michigan office to support a wide range of traffic and transportation projects including roadway reconstruction, maintenance of traffic, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, ITS, and other safety and operations design projects.

Join our Michigan office and be an integral part of growing our Transportation Design and Technology practice. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, proactive, demonstrates sound technical excellence, and has a focus on delivering high quality work. This opportunity entails being responsible for pursuit, development, and delivery of traffic design projects while managing scope, budget, and quality control. This position coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the proper resources at the appropriate time. Responsible for technical coaching and mentoring and efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Assists with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
  • Performs technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Performs coordination with managers on project staffing, including, but not limited to; recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
  • May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years task management or Deputy PM experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Management of traffic and safety projects including development of scope, budget, schedule, and technical requirements.
  • Perform traffic modeling across a wide variety of projects utilizing software such as VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS
  • Management of safety analysis tasks utilizing Highway Safety Manual (HSM) methodology. Familiarity with the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM), the Enhanced Interchange Safety Analysis Tool (ISATe), and HSM spreadsheets.
  • Expertise and proficiency in traffic design activities such as maintenance of traffic, signing, pavement marking, traffic signalization, and ITS.
  • Prepare construction plans and engineer estimates for traffic design components.
  • Providing technical guidance to team and task leads as well as performing portions of the technical work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Preparation of supporting documentation such as memorandums and technical reports.
  • Coordination with Local, State, and Federal Agencies
  • Knowledge of MDOT and other Michigan transportation agency standards and specifications.
  • Manage time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical reports, project documentation, and proposals to clients and stakeholders.

What We Prefer:

  • 10 years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
