The Role
The Treasury and Investment Office (T&IO) is responsible for the investment strategy and portfolio management of approx. £149 billion in assets under management. They carry out various stages of the investment process for a variety of different multi-asset and annuity funds. This includes setting the asset allocation, selecting and monitoring underlying managers as well as various portfolio management activities.
The role in T&IO will be suitable for anyone with an analytical mind, comfortable with numbers and an eagerness to learn as well as a creative mind and strong writing skills.
What will you be doing?
As a T&IO Analyst Apprentice you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of different teams but with the benefit of them all being part of the same wider department who work closely together. You will require a wide range of skills with each team having their own focus, giving you the opportunity to hone different skills across the department.
Teams that you will gain exposure to include:
Client Portfolio Management (CPM) team supports both internal sales teams and external clients in educating them about the range of funds available. The team will meet regularly with both internal and external stakeholders, educating them on areas such as fund performance, fund process and philosophy and the role of T&IO, all to support flows into the fund ranges. The team’s role also includes supporting the creation of marketing material as well as pitch decks used for client meetings.
- Helping to pull together pitch decks / presentations for a range of our multi-asset funds and propositions
- Producing monthly reports for various committees
- Supporting the production of content to be used in Marketing material
- Helping to answer any queries the team may get from internal or external stakeholders
- Supporting the team in anything that can help support flows into our funds
- Providing ad hoc support to the wider team as and when required
Liability Driven Portfolio Management (LDPM) team are responsible for the day-to-day management of the annuity portfolios and a number of other liability driven portfolios. Work on the desk is varied, and can include working on the investment strategy, rebalancing the portfolios, supporting new propositions and carrying out reviews and reporting on the portfolios.
- Assisting in overseeing the portfolios, including the implementation of investment and hedging strategies
- Preparing monthly portfolio management information (MI) and other reports for the Investment Committee and various governance forums
- Helping to answer any queries the team may get from internal or external stakeholders
- Exposure to several different projects and initiatives within and outside the team
- Participate and contribute to meetings, both within the team and with other stakeholders.

The Multi-Asset Portfolio Management (MAPM) team are responsible for the day-to-day management of multi asset portfolios. This includes keeping portfolios in structure, making changes in investment strategy, recommending tactical positioning, undertaking compliance checks and reporting.
The Manager Oversight (MO) team primarily focus on Manager selection, Fund/Mandate design and the ongoing due diligence of all our investments. MO has ownership of so called ‘building blocks’ (i.e. funds and/or mandates) that are allocated to across different asset classes. This responsibility is spread across all traditional asset classes (Equity, Fixed Income Alternatives and Real Estate) but also across geographic regions.
The Long Term Investment Strategy (LTIS) team sets the long-term investment strategy for the multi-asset and the Annuities funds managed by T&IO. Areas of expertise include the Strategic Asset Allocation, Economics and Capital Market Assumptions and Capital Market Modelling (CMM). CMM are responsible for the development and maintenance of the in-house asset return models, called GeneSIS. The models simulate, thousands of probable future scenarios over a long period for a range of asset classes.
The ESG & Regulatory (ESGR) team are responsible for the development, review and integration of our ESG Investment Policy and specific policy positions (e.g. Controversial Weapons) across our portfolios and investment processes. They take into account research, and current and expected regulation and client needs in proactively identifying areas of ESG focus for the business.

Minimum Requirements
- Available to start the apprenticeship programme in September 2025
- You must not be enrolled into another further education programme at the beginning of the programme
- Be a UK citizen or have proof of your right to work in the UK
- Living in England
- Minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English and Mathematics
- Minimum of Grade C in Three A Levels or equivalent such as BTEC Nationals
Training Provided
As a Treasury & Investment Office Apprentice with M&G, you will undertake the Level 4 Investment Operations Specialist Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blend of live online learning, pre-recorded lectures, and face to face inductions and masterclasses
Future Prospects
This is a fixed term contract will vary between 18 - 23 months. The business may decide to retain, subject to the Apprentice performance, headcount, and available funding. If recruited into a permanent role, the individual will follow the career progression applicable to the specific role/department.
Salary
£26,000 per annum plus benefits
