Role:  Test Engineer - Personal Safety Team (PPE)

Location: Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire

Position: Full-Time, Permanent

Are you an engineer with a mechanical background? Do you want a role where you'll be able to interact with clients, as well as machinery and apply your technical abilities?

BSI has a fantastic opportunity for a Test Engineer to join us at our Hemel Hempstead labs, working within our PPE testing team. Our Personal Safety Team works primarily with PPE, with three key areas - Latex, Headwear and Eyewear. You'll test a variety of products, from condoms, to equestrian helmets to safety goggles to ensure that they conform to required safety and quality standards. You'll need to be able to operate the machinery (including the ability to resolve day to day maintenance issues) record detailed testing results and also liaise with clients to advise the outcome of their product testing.

About You

  • Previous experience as a test engineer or mechanical discipline and/or have a Mechanical Engineering qualification.

  • Build relationships with our clients, understand their requirements and then deliver this work autonomously.

  • Knowledge of Lean culture is beneficial

  • Strong interpersonal skills to confidently liaise with clients, and advise on the status of work to facilitate premier customer service & on-time delivery on all work and projects.

  • A drive for development is key as you'll be given the opportunity to develop technical skills to work across a wide variety of laboratories, equipment and standards or client bespoke requirements.

  • Resourceful and solution orientated.

  • Proactive and flexible with a great attention to detail

  • Knowledge of ISO standards such as ISO 17025 is beneficial.
