The Office of General Counsel is Grant Thornton UK’s legal function. We help both the services lines (our client facing teams) and CCS (our central client support function) manage legal and commercial risks by delivering high quality outcomes in our commercial contractual relationships and in respect of legal disputes and regulatory issues. This role is part of the commercial contracting team, supporting all service lines and central functions.

A look into the role

As a Technology Legal Counsel within our Office of General Counsel (Contracting) team, you will:

  • Provide legal advice on technology contracts, including software licensing, SaaS agreements, cloud services, and IT procurement.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of technology-related agreements with clients, vendors, and partners.
  • Work cross-functionally with other internal teams to advise on the legal aspects of technology-related data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity matters arising across all areas of GT's business.
  • Play a key role in digital transformation projects and advise on legal aspects of new technology adoption, including AI, automation, and digital platforms.
  • Monitor regulatory developments in technology law and proactively communicate implications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Information Systems, Digital & Data, Quality & Risk, Data Protection, Information Security, Procurement, and our Service Lines) to identify and mitigate technology-related legal risks.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as a Technology Legal Counsel, the minimum criteria you’ll need is to be a qualified solicitor with proven experience in technology law, ideally gained within a law firm or in-house at a large business. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

  • Knowledge of data protection and intellectual property law.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with a commercial and pragmatic approach.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong team ethic, able to guide and supervise others and act as a subject matter expert for the wider team.
