Technology & Change Finance Business Partner

Reporting to the Head of FP&A - London Market

London based with Hybrid working

The Role

This role is part of the London Market Finance team which looks after all aspects of Finance Management for the Hiscox London Market business unit. This role reports into the London Market Head of FP&A and has responsibility for the management and associated reporting of Technology and Change spend for Hiscox London Market. This includes the end-to-end financial management of all things technology related, from purchase orders to invoice processing; financial reporting and analysis & budgeting and forecasting. There is a strong partnering aspect with the London Market Technology Director and the London Market COO, as well as engaging with the London Market CFO and CEO as key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

Key duties include monthly technical accounting, financial planning/forecasting, analysis, tracking of Change vs Run spend by value stream, and the business cases for Technology and the wider Change function.

Partnering is an essential component of this role. Both partnering with the London Market Technology Director and the London Market COO, as well as engaging with the London Market CFO and CEO as key stakeholders. This partnering includes supporting these key stakeholder’s understanding the Technology and Change cost bases, in the context of the overall cost management activity of the London Market division.

As well as the stakeholder engagement component of business partnering, the role requires the timely preparation of monthly management information for Technology & Change costs, differentiating between Change and Run spend, as well as cash and P&L impacts, and review of monthly journal postings.

The role will suit an individual with a proven track record of managing costs accurately with clear value added through active performance management and clear communication with senior executive stakeholders

In more detail, key responsibilities include:  

  • Ownership of Technology & Change spend reporting going into regular LM and Group-wide management forums (for example LM Expense and Headcount Forum, and Group Quarterly Change Forum)
  • Preparation of accurate, reliable forecasts and financial plans in partnership with the LM Technology Director, London Market COO and the London Market Finance team
  • Support of this preparation with an efficient approach to building and maintaining forecasts, supported by strong numerical and Excel skills, and an ability to identify key priorities in order to manage time appropriately
  • Provide effective financial partnership and ad-hoc analysis to the LM Technology Director and COO, and the London Market Finance team focusing on Technology & Change spend.
  • Work closely with Procurement as required and support the business in managing procurement considerations
  • Own and maintain accrual calculations and monthly submissions for the service company team to post
  • Review the outputs from the central Hiscox Accounts Payable team, including checking coding with requestors and/or against budgets and Purchase Orders, and helping with the approval process as well as actively communicating with Accounts Payable should adjustments be required
  • Maintain effective controls and checks on accruals, regularly reviewing invoices, accruals and ledger postings to check for accuracy
  • Appetite to engage in projects or additional responsibilities such as process improvement. It is important that the role holder advances the current strategic approach to Technology & Change cost management.

Key requirements

  • Qualified accountant with proven track record of managing costs accurately with clear value added through active performance management and engagement with key stakeholders
  • Organised and able to meet strict monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines.
  • Ability to look ahead to anticipate how stakeholder requirements will evolve as the commercial realities develop
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team and the confidence to challenge the business and influence decision making
  • Perspective and confidence to identify key priorities and engage with peers and stakeholder in a way that manages time appropriately
  • Ambition to drive underlying improvements to processes and wider strategic approach to cost management, initiating ideas and investing to pursue them
  • The ideal candidate will be expected to perform to a high standard in a fast paced environment
  • Team player who can cooperate confidently with colleagues and customers.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly Excel to an advanced level
  • Working knowledge of Oracle financials is beneficial but not essential
