Job Overview

DPS Games is a Wargaming studio, proudly backed by the global success of titles like World of Tanks. Based in Guildford, we are part of one of the world’s leading free-to-play PC game companies, with the resources and experience to support ambitious, long-term development.

We're currently building our next big project: a collaboration with a world-renowned name, an epic-scale military sci-fi fantasy, free-to-play game focused on delivering cinematic visual quality and a rich, immersive world.

Now in the early stages of pre-production and prototyping, we’re looking for a Technical Director to lead the technology strategy for our next major game. This is a complex and highly collaborative role, responsible for setting technical direction across multiple internal and external teams.

What will you do?
  • Define and own the technical vision and architecture for the project, balancing performance, scalability, and maintainability. 
  • Select and integrate appropriate third-party tools and middleware, while identifying where custom solutions are needed. Establish and evolve engineering processes that support efficient development across highly distributed development teams 
  • Collaborate closely with art and design leads to ensure technical implementation supports creative goals. 
  • Maintain responsibility for the technical quality of the product, including performance targets, code quality, and best practices. Mentor, develop and lead both internal and external engineering, while supporting team growth and development.  
  • Work with the leadership and product teams on strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
What are we looking for?
  • Strong Unreal Engine experience with at least one shipped title as a lead programmer or technical director.  
  • Proven background in game programming, ideally across multiple systems or platforms.
  • Experience working with networked multiplayer games, ideally MMO-scale.
  • Solid understanding of PC and/or console game development and distribution (at least one platform required, ideally - both).  
  • Experience working closely with cross-discipline teams, especially art and design.
  • A natural mentor and people manager, able to inspire and grow technical talent.  
  • Great verbal and written communication skills in English. 
What additional skills will help you stand out?
  • Experience in leading distributed engineering teams, including external vendors and outsourcing partners.  
  • Previous involvement in launching or operating a live free-to-play game.
  • Familiarity with Bigworld technology.
  • Broad technical knowledge across areas such as AI, physics, rendering, UI, networking, optimization, and content pipelines.
