In short we need a technical expert, well-known in this field, who can be a reference point for more junior team members whilst also contributing to the business development activities of the group.

The role is an exciting opportunity to provide input to a range of high profile projects for clients, aimed primarily at helping them identify and assess their major hazard risks, ensure they meet regulatory compliance, and offering solutions as to how they may reduce their risks further.

You will support the successful delivery of ERM proposals and projects by adhering to client requirements and identifying opportunities for evolving services in line with client needs. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in Chemical Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop tools and processes that will be used by other members of the team. Experience in software such as use of macros in excel, PowerBI and coding would be highly desirable.

  • Implement hazard identification techniques and risk assessment. Ability to read engineering drawings (e.g. Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs) would be required.

  • Have experience in workshops including HAZID, HAZOP and SIL. The ideal candidate will have experience chairing some of these workshops and be keen to develop this skill.

  • Provide technical/subject matter insight and review, to ensure that the quality of project deliverables represent ERM standards and are in line with client needs

  • You must have a desire to be heavily involved in business development, to foster relationships with existing and new clients. Previous experience in taking an active role in business development is strongly desired.

  • Develop client proposals and to build client relationship as well as developing their own internal and external network

  • You will be tasked with making a positive contribution to the risk team by being actively involved in project work and in the development of support functions/ techniques that would aid project delivery.

  • Involvement in the day-to-day management and mentoring of junior team members- previous experience is desired

  • Ensure client satisfaction through project communication and engagement

  • Be accountable for meeting personal billability at the budgeted rate and personal sales contribution targets

Role responsibilities

As a Technical Director, you will support the successful delivery of ERM objectives by:

  • Providing leadership in communicating and enabling ERM’s health and safety culture

  • Creating and sustaining ERM's reputation for technical excellence in a technical specialism or subject matter

  • Developing, sharing and utilising technical expertise outside of own Business Unit/local footprint (at least within Region)

  • Leveraging technical excellence and thought leadership to materially contribute to the achievement of sales targets for high growth/high value and key clients

  • Meaningfully contribute in a leadership role within or otherwise with the relevant Technical Communities; being a champion for technical collaboration across (at least) own region
