We’re looking for a Technical Services Assistant – Rules and Legislation for a permanent role based in Darlington with hybrid working.

The Role

As a Technical Services Assistant – Rules and Legislation, you will provide pensions technical support to the Technical Policy and Services team and other areas of the business. Your work ensures Railpen administers the rail schemes in accordance with their rules, pensions legislation, and regulatory requirements.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop deep technical knowledge of rail scheme rules and pensions legislation. You’ll analyse rules, monitor regulatory developments, and help shape administrative practices, while sharing expertise through technical advice, publications, and training.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

The Person

You will bring experience from working within the pensions industry, with a solid understanding of administration processes and technical pension requirements. Ideally, you will have or be working towards a professional qualification such as APMI (or equivalent), and be confident using IT tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong analytical and investigative skills, combined with excellent organisational ability, will enable you to manage priorities and meet deadlines effectively.

You will demonstrate clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across the business. A technical mindset and willingness to keep up to date with pensions developments are essential. You take ownership and accountability for your work, focusing on accuracy and quality, and proactively suggest improvements. Customer service is at the heart of what you do, managing expectations and understanding the importance of SLAs. Ambitious and keen to learn, you actively drive your own development and share knowledge with others.
