Magnopus is seeking a skilled Technical Artist to help drive the development of high-quality, real-time experiences. In this role, you’ll act as a key technical bridge between art and engineering, collaborating closely with artists, animators, and developers to build scalable pipelines, optimise performance, and deliver visually consistent content across projects. We're looking for someone who brings deep Unreal Engine expertise, a strong problem-solving mindset, and a passion for enabling creative teams through robust tools and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise, advice, and solutions to artists, animators, and riggers.
  • Partner with our creative team to develop and implement asset pipelines for large-scale teams.
  • Ensure visual consistency across all assets by designing and maintaining robust workflows.
  • Research and suggest appropriate tools and processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Develop bespoke tools tailored to project needs, enhancing workflow effectiveness.
  • Profile and optimise content to maintain high performance and quality.
  • Independently extract well-defined requirements from creative and artistic briefs.
  • Set performance and memory objectives and establish testing methods.
  • Identify technical bottlenecks and recommend effective optimisation strategies.
  • Conduct code and content performance reviews as needed.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Assist in defining technical art tasks and participate in sprint planning.
  • Act as a versatile Unreal Engine “all rounder”, contributing across tools, pipelines, and real-time workflows.

Requirements

  • Expertise in one or more industry-standard DCC tools (Maya, Max, Houdini, Blender, Substance, Photoshop, etc.) for 2D and 3D asset creation.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Advanced experience with Unreal Engine, including Blueprint scripting.
  • Proven experience developing asset pipelines that scale and maintain visual consistency.
  • Ability to build custom tools as needed to meet project-specific requirements.
  • Strong understanding of performance optimisation and profiling tools (RenderDoc, Unreal Insights, GPU Visualiser etc.).
  • Proactive in preempting and addressing performance limitations on target devices.
  • Proficient with version control systems (Perforce, Git, or similar) for asset management.
  • A problem-solving mindset and the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical team members.
  • Passion for learning and exploring new skills and techniques.

Nice to have

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Mel Script, PyMel, HLSL/GLSL or C#.
  • Strong proficiency in shader development in Unreal Engine.
  • Experience in UEFN.
  • Strong understanding of Sequencer in Unreal.
  • Understanding of compression formats and colour workflows in DCC content creation.
  • Experience developing custom shader nodes for Unity.
  • Experience with plugin development for Unreal and Unity.
