Description

We're looking for a proactive Technical Artist to bridge the gap between visualization and engineering, delivering hands-on expertise and solutions to artists, animators, and riggers. You'll collaborate across departments to help troubleshoot and streamline issues in our pipeline as well as getting in the mix with shot creation. From setting testing standards to identifying risks before they hit source control, you'll play a key role in keeping our pipelines efficient and our builds solid. Working within our visualization team, you'll help scope tasks, estimate work, and proactively flag challenges — all while maintaining the documentation and best practices that keep the team moving fast.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with other departments and leadership to design end-to-end solutions that improve quality and streamline iteration

• Deliver technical guidance, expertise, and solutions to support artists, animators, and riggers as needed

• Follow and help shape best practices, workflows, pipelines, and tooling for technical art

• Translate creative and artistic briefs into clear, actionable requirements with minimal oversight

• Define performance and memory targets, and establish testing methods

• Balance quality against performance, crafting solutions that optimize for both simultaneously

• Juggle multiple ongoing tasks across the full development-to-delivery lifecycle

• Carry out code and content performance reviews when required

• Validate all work within builds prior to submission

• Flag potential risks tied to changes before they're committed to source control

• Understand responsibilities within a scrum framework and help scope out technical art tasks

• Participate in daily standups, and give estimates during sprint planning and related sessions

• Anticipate project risks proactively and recommend practical solutions

• Produce and keep up-to-date technical documentation as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Strong background and knowledge in visualization for feature films
  • Expertise in industry-standard DCC tools (Maya, Unreal Engine, After Effects)
  • Experience in creating 2D and 3D postvis assets
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine, including Blueprinting and deep experience with lighting, rendering, and content integration for postvis pipelines
  • Strong understanding of realtime performance constraints, with the ability to identify and resolve bottlenecks within Unreal to maintain high frame rates on target devices
  • Anticipate and resolves performance constraints on target devices before they become issues
  • Able to communicate technical issues to non-technical team members
  • Proficient in using performance tools within the engine and on devices to identify performance bottlenecks
  • Experience writing and editing clear technical documentation
  • Familiarity with production tracking tools
  • Adept at maintaining version control for all work (Perforce), including works in progress
  • Capable of planning, designing and implementing solutions to a broad range of technical art problems
  • Must be based in the United Kingdom
