Job Description
As a Technical Artist your primary objective is to seamlessly blend art and technology to enhance our gaming experiences. Specialising in technical integration, production details, user experience, and game animations, you will be instrumental in bringing our game worlds to life with fluid and captivating visuals. Your focus will be on applying your artistic vision, leading creative projects, collaborating with game artists, and delivering a top-quality, cohesive gaming experience in a timely manner.
- Collaborate closely with Game Artists, Game Producers, Designers, and Developers to integrate art assets into the proprietary game engine while ensuring optimal performance and visual fidelity.
- Use your expertise in rigging and animation techniques to create dynamic character animations, environment effects, and user interface animations that enhance gameplay immersion.
- Develop and maintain efficient pipelines for importing, exporting, and optimising art assets within the game engine, maximising productivity and workflow efficiency.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to art asset implementation and animation performance, providing timely solutions to ensure project milestones are met.
- Conduct research and experimentation with new techniques and tools in game animation and technical art, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement best practices, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Provide guidance and support to other studio artists and team members on technical aspects of asset creation and animation implementation, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in design and development meetings, offering insights and recommendations to enhance the overall visual quality and performance of our games.
- Optimise game performance by identifying and resolving technical challenges related to art and animation.
- Document technical processes and workflows to ensure knowledge is preserved and accessible for future projects.
- Collaborate on the development of tools and scripts to improve the efficiency of art and animation workflows.
- Mentor junior artists in technical aspects of art creation and integration, helping to build a stronger and more capable art team.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Extensive experience working in the software projects
- Experience in computer-generated art, including proficiency in several of the following areas: fundamentals of composition, form, colour, light and shading, and graphics content optimisation.
- Strong illustration skills (demonstrated in portfolio)
- Intermediate level in Adobe creative packages (emphasis on Photoshop and Illustrator)
- Knowledge of Esoteric Spine for gaming animation
- Intermediate level or better in Adobe After Effects
- Experience in digital art, including proficiency in several of the following areas: concepting and production artwork for environments, characters, typography and UI, lighting and shading, high-quality asset rendering and optimisation
- Experience of working with Games Development Teams or similar creative project deliveries
- Strong digital portfolio of work that demonstrates a keen eye for artistic direction, imagination and storytelling
- Interest and knowledge In video games and gaming culture
- Strong accuracy and pixel-perfect attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Desired:
- Skills In storyboarding sequences
- Aptitude for animation sequences and particle effects
- Working knowledge of 3D software
