We are looking for a confident individual with a positive outlook and a can do attitude who are aspiring to build their experience and progress at M&G.

The applicant would ideally have an inquisitive nature and be curious. The successful applicant should feel confident to use their own initiative and work alone where required with an aspiration to want to learn and progress.

The Role

The tax team reports to the Chief Financial Officer and performs a variety of critical functions to ensure M&G complies with tax laws and regulations, optimises its tax position, and manages tax risks.  These activities include:

Tax Compliance: Ensuring that the company meets all its tax filing obligations, including corporate income tax, VAT/GST, payroll taxes, and other relevant taxes. This involves preparing and submitting accurate tax returns on time.

Tax Planning and Strategy: Developing and implementing tax strategies to minimise the company's tax liabilities within the legal framework. This includes advising on the tax implications of business decisions, mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate activities.

Tax Reporting: Preparing tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. This includes calculating deferred taxes and ensuring accurate tax reporting in the company's financial statements.

Risk Management: Identifying and managing tax risks, including those related to changes in tax laws and regulations. This involves staying up-to-date with tax legislation and ensuring the company is prepared for any changes that may impact its tax position.

Transfer Pricing: Managing transfer pricing policies and documentation to ensure that transactions between related entities are conducted at arm's length and comply with international tax regulations.

Tax Audits and Disputes: Handling tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, and managing any disputes or litigation that may arise. This includes providing documentation and explanations to support the company's tax positions.

Advisory Services: Providing tax advice to various departments within the company, including finance, legal, and operations, to ensure that tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.

International Taxation: Managing the tax implications of the company's international operations, including cross-border transactions, repatriation of profits, and compliance with international tax treaties and regulations.

Tax Technology and Process Improvement: Implementing and maintaining tax technology solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax processes. This includes automating tax compliance and reporting tasks.

What will you be doing?

As a Tax Technology Apprentice your daily duties will include:  

  • Implement and configure tax software solutions to meet the needs of the tax department.
  • Maintain and update tax software, ensuring it is functioning correctly and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to tax software.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate tax processes using technology.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of tax compliance and reporting.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to integrate tax technology solutions with existing systems.
  • Manage and analyse large datasets to support tax compliance and planning activities.
  • Develop and maintain tax data repositories and reporting tools.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support tax decision-making.
  • Train tax department staff on the use of tax software and technology tools.
  • Develop and maintain user guides and documentation for tax technology solutions.

  • High level of accuracy and good attention to detail 
  • Can effectively manage day to day work, alongside apprenticeship qualification 
  • Moderate understanding of the MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Minimum Requirements

  • Available to start the apprenticeship programme in September 2025
  • You must not be enrolled into another further education programme at the beginning of the programme
  • Be a UK citizen or have proof of your right to work in the UK
  • Living in England
  • Minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English and Mathematics
  • Minimum of Grade C in Three A-Levels or equivalent such as BTEC Nationals 

Training Provided

As a Tax Technology Apprentice with M&G, you will undertake the Business Analyst Level 4 Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will be delivered through a blend of live online learning, pre-recorded lectures, and face to face inductions and masterclasses

Future Prospects

This is a fixed term contract for 18 - 23 months upon which the business may decide to retain, subject to the Apprentice performance, headcount, and available funding. If recruited into a permanent role, the individual will follow the career progression applicable to the specific role/department.

Salary

£26,000  per annum plus benefits
