Interim Tax Manager – UK & EMEA (with VAT Recovery Focus)

Chessington | Flexible Hybrid Working

Competitive salary | £60,000 - £80,000 (depending on experience) + Benefits

Callaway Golf Europe are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to support the delivery of direct and indirect tax compliance across UK and EMEA, with a particular emphasis on VAT recovery and process improvement.

Joining us on a full time, interim basis for 6-12 months, the Tax Manager will work closely with local finance teams and our US Tax Team to ensure tax compliance, improve efficiency, and maintain alignment with global tax strategy. The role offers a potential path to a permanent position for the right candidate.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller, the Tax Manager will manage and coordinate tax compliance activities across the UK and EMEA. Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Own and prepare tax submissions, including:
    • VAT returns and recovery, with an initial focus on German VAT
    • EC Sales Lists, VIES returns, and other cross-border reporting
    • Corporation Tax returns and supporting computations
    • Annual P11D and PSA filings
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline VAT registrations and reduce reliance on external advisers, improving both recovery and cost efficiency.
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors across multiple jurisdictions to resolve queries and manage audits.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual tax provision reporting, working in tandem with local finance and external advisors as needed.
  • Collaborate with the US Tax Team to ensure practices align with global tax strategy.
  • Maintain and strengthen SOX-compliant tax controls and documentation.
  • Provide clear, practical VAT guidance to operational teams as required
  • Monitor relevant changes in tax legislation across EMEA and assess their impact on compliance and business operations.

About You

To be successful as the Tax Manager, you will be a qualified tax professional or accountant (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with strong UK and European VAT experience, preferably in VAT recovery.

You’ll have a proven track record of managing tax compliance across multiple countries and be confident in navigating both direct and indirect tax in international environments.

You’ll be highly organised, self-driven and able to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment. Strong analytical skills and a hands-on, detail-focused approach are key to success in this role.

Whilst not essential, familiarity with SOX compliance, transfer pricing and risk control frameworks would be desirable.

Prior experience with SAP and data automation tools would support your success in this role. European language skills, particularly German, would also be highly advantageous.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary range of £60,000 - £80,000 p/a approximately depending on experience
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangement (3 days per week in Chessington HQ)
  • Private health insurance
  • Health care cash plan
  • Life assurance
  • Pension scheme match up to 6%
  • Generous holiday entitlement plus bank holidays and a day off for your birthday
  • Staff discounts
  • Interest free leisure and season ticket loans
  • Employee assistance programme

This is a unique opportunity for a driven tax professional who wants the chance to prove their value and have their contributions recognised. You’ll be joining a collaborative, forward thinking finance team with strong global connections, which genuinely values and supports its people.

If this sounds like the role for you, we’d love to hear from you - apply today to be considered for the Tax Manager role!
