The role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated, process driven Tax Manager to join the Tax team and oversee our direct tax reporting and compliance processes in the various countries in which we operate.
The ideal candidate will have experience with tax reporting and compliance in a public company environment reporting in US GAAP and subject to SOX controls. This position will report to the International Tax Director and will be responsible for managing and further improving TravelPerk’s direct tax operations and on-going external reporting processes in compliance with the applicable tax laws and accounting standards and regulations.
This role will be based in London and, while we do offer certain flexibility, the responsibilities of the role require you to be in the office several days per week.
What you will do
- Lead income tax operations for TravelPerk and its subsidiaries, including supporting the preparation and review of financial statements, tax accounting, tax filings, and supporting tax controversies.
- Manage the preparation, review, finalization and documentation of the interim period and annual global income tax reporting obligations under US GAAP ASC740, including the determination of tax expense, deferred taxes, valuation allowances and uncertain tax positions, effective tax rate reconciliation, return to provision and disclosures processes.
- Develop and maintain the interim and annual tax closing processes, including the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the respective internal controls.
- Drive the implementation of tax software solutions to support the tax compliance and reporting processes. Identify automation opportunities to drive process efficiencies, quality improvements, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with external advisors and serve as primary contact for tax compliance requests to ensure accurate and timely filing of all income tax returns. Own return-to-provision preparation, analysis, and booking.
- Liaise with financial statement auditors to align on timelines and support required for on-going audit with relation to income tax matters. This includes preparing quarterly income tax memos.
- Support and drive ad-hoc projects within a broader tax context with respect to topics of international tax, transfer pricing, tax planning and structuring initiatives, M&A activities, tax audits and others. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of global tax policies, procedures and controls.
- Provide guidance to the finance, accounting, legal and operational teams on direct tax compliance and reporting requirements and applicable criteria. Partner closely with key members of other business functions and teams on relevant tax matters.
What you need
- Minimum of 6 years experience in tax reporting and compliance, preferably a mix at a large public accounting firm and a U.S. publicly traded corporation.
- Strong knowledge and extensive experience with ASC 740, specifically with respect to the tax accounting aspects of global tax reporting consolidation, effective tax rate reconciliation, deferred tax accounting, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, return to provision processes and tax disclosures.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including US GAAP and IFRS and relevant book-tax differences. Experience with tax accounting for Stock Options is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with tax reporting in a SoX controlled environment including tax compliance and tax legislation analysis.
- Understanding of US international tax rules, including GILTI, BEAT and Subpart F and knowledge of Spanish, UK, and German tax rules is a bonus.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting software (NetSuite experience a bonus), and tax software enablement for ASC740 tax reporting.
- Excellent time management in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment, excellent communication (English), and organizational skills.
- Detail oriented with strong trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communicator with desire and ability to build relationships cross-functionally.
- Self-starter who can operate effectively with ability to work both independently with a minimum level of supervision and within a team environment.

For roles in Customer Care, this can be up to 5 days per week in the office. As such, this role requires you to be within commuting distance of our hubs.
