As part of the System Engineering discipline of THALES Belgium, the System Engineer is responsible to define systems and solutions with customers and architects, support their development and their integration into their target environment.
As a main actor of System design, System Engineers bring expertise in analyzing customer requests, writing clear functional and system requirements and defining elegant and practical solutions at a system level.
Connecting different disciplines, the System Engineers may interact with pre-sales Architects, Product Design Authority, Software architects, Hardware designers, IVVQ engineers, Project managers, Technical Design Engineers and Customers.

The Engineer who will take this specific position will contribute to the design of various systems, often related to Cybersecurity and equipment design. This position requests a background in device engineering and/or cybersecurity/cryptography.
Mission:
• To understand and analyze the customer’s needs;
To take the lead in the system specifications and design process, in strong cooperation with all the required technical and non-technical skills involved (e.g. hardware, software, security, project managers, quality, maintenance);
To define the system architecture at the logical and the physical layers, with their interfaces, with a sense of development cost, risk, evolution and maintainability;
To liaise with customers and main architects for the technical related aspects of the solution;
To bring state of the art expertise for their field of expertise, specialty or domain;
To support the teams responsible for the implementation and testing of the solution by providing technical expertise on various aspects of the solution under development.
To support the sales and marketing teams by providing internal and external technical pre-sales support for the solutions and services under the scope of Thales Belgium.

Profile:
Master’s Degree in Engineering (System, Telecommunication, Cybersecurity) or Cryptographic Sciences.
At least a first professional experience as Architect, System engineer, or Designer of systems or devices
A professional experience, or research field, covering at least 3 of the following domains:
o Security devices
o Critical communications
o Main cryptography algorithms and their real-world applications
o Risk analysis methodologies
o Threat Modelling
o System Modelling, with methodologies such as Arcadia/MBSE, SysML or alternatives
Fluent in French or Dutch.
 

One or more of the following is a strong differentiator:

  • o Experience using requirements management tools (e.g.: POLARION, Doors).
  • Experience using tools such as Capella or Enterprise Architect
  • Experience and awareness of the spatial and/or military vocabulary and way of working, in particular around cybersecurity;
  • Experience with critical communication networks, with legacy (i.e. TETRA or X25) and/or next-generation (broadband LTE/5G);
  • Knowledge of Data Centric Security principles and upcoming regulations;
  • Working with NATO and/or EU regulations on IT and/or OT cybersecurity;
  • Possession of a valid NATO, EU and/or National security clearance;
  • Experience with technical and governance constraints related to classified information handling, especially in a crypto-related context;
  • Experience with internal and external knowledge sharing through in-person seminars, webinars and/or whitepapers redaction.
  • Intrusion detection and response (IDS, xDR, ...);
  • SOC-related technologies : log collection & management, SIEM & SOAR ;
  • Cloud-environments security aspects, both in hybrid and full-cloud deployments.
