THE ROLE

At Sotheby’s we’re using data to drive the way business decisions are made in the art and luxury commerce space. This enables us to efficiently scale our core businesses for our clients. 

Sotheby’s is looking for a SVP of Data/AI to lead the organization through all efforts that drive business performance and potential by using existing and new data sources and techniques.  This executive will be responsible for driving data-driven innovation across the organization and its digital assets. The ideal candidate requires deep analytical expertise, ensuring that data is both leveraged and protected to its fullest potential. In this role, you will oversee functions such as Data Science and Machine Learning, Business Intelligence, Data Governance, and Data Quality. 

This leader is responsible for the overall analytics roadmap (including marketing analytics, product analytics, and business/financial analytics as well as insights), resource allocation, and making buy-build-partner decisions. Overseeing functions such as Data Science and Machine Learning, Business and Product Intelligence, Data Governance, Data Quality and Digitization. You will work closely with clients, product leaders and our Engineering team to ensure that intelligence is infused throughout our organization and products.

Data Science and AI Leadership

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for data science initiatives aligned with business goals
  • Lead cross-functional teams in building predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and AI-driven solutions
  • Evaluate third party partnerships and use cases for feasibility and financial viability with an eye toward speedy execution.
  • Champion data governance, quality, and ethical use of AI across the organization
  • Translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies for stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and innovation

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field or 15+ years of experience in data science and analytics, with at least 10 years in leadership roles
  • Proven track record of building and scaling teams and programs
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), & data engineering
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking skills
