The Position

Surgical Device Partner

Location:  South of England

Are you a surgical expert passionate about transforming patient outcomes in the vitreoretinal space?

At Roche, our mission is to accelerate "better outcomes for more patients faster." We are seeking a purpose-driven, experienced specialist to join our Medical Affairs Chapter as a Surgical Device Partner (SDP). This is a critical field-based role where your technical expertise, strategic insight, and dedication to patient safety will drive the successful implementation and training for ophthalmic surgical technologies, including the Port Delivery System (PDS).

You will be obsessed with supporting our healthcare partners, working boldly to bridge science, technology, and exceptional patient care.

The Opportunity:

The SDP is the primary surgical-technical expert for the Therapeutic Area of Ophthalmology (TA). You will operate in a highly autonomous environment, serving as the crucial link between the internal organization and the clinical environment.

Operational & Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Surgical Training & Support: Independently plan and conduct all necessary preparations and training for Vitreo-Retinal Surgeons, Medical Retina specialists and ass clinical staff (including virtual reality, dry labs, and wet labs).

  • Primary Conduit: Act as the main technical contact, providing continuous remote and on-site support for the ophthalmic medical devices/PDP.

  • Live Procedure Attendance: Accompany surgical procedures (implantation, refilling, revision, etc.) in the Operating Room and clinic to instruct and support the surgeon and clinical team.

  • Compliance Guardian: Maintain the highest standards of compliance, ethics, and patient safety in all action

Strategic Contribution:

  • Insight Generation: Proactively monitor the external landscape (trends, competitors) and translate clinical insights into strategic actionable recommendations to shape global and local PDP strategy.

  • Relationship Management: Develop and cultivate strategic relationships with key Therapeutic Area Experts (TAEs) and clinical trial centers to support Phase I-IV studies.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Advise on strategic planning, prioritization, and resource requirements for the ophthalmology portfolio, ensuring alignment from global teams to local delivery.

  • Medical Review: Provide strategic medical and scientific review for key materials and communications.

Who You Are

You are a purpose-driven, autonomous expert with a clear desire to teach and lead.

  • Ophthalmology Expertise: Substantial experience and knowledge in UK Ophthalmology, ideally  within the vitreoretinal surgical environment.

  • Clinical Background: With a proficient level of  experience in an ophthalmic surgical and/or clinical setting.

  • Teaching Ability: Outstanding ability and desire to teach and inspire a wide variety of learners (HCPs, surgeons, clinical staff).

  • Compliance Knowledge: Solid knowledge of device safety and pharmacovigilance, and the ability to operate within a compliance-led regulatory environment.

  • Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to analyze and solve complex issues, devise appropriate tactics, and drive change by influencing without direct authority.

  • Autonomy: Adept at operating in a highly autonomous working environment—seeing projects through from conception to completion.

  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel

  • Qualifications: Full UK driving license. ABPI Qualified, or commit to passing qualification within 2 years of being in the industry.
