House & Garden is looking for a Sub Editor, 6 month FTC to join its close knit and dynamic team.

The Role

You'll be responsible for sub-editing and proofreading all editorial content, ensuring accuracy through careful fact-checking and thoughtful rewriting where needed. You will craft headlines, sells and captions in keeping with House & Garden’s distinctive style and tone.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role at a magazine or website, with an excellent grasp of English grammar and spelling and proficiency in Adobe InDesign and InCopy. A passion for House & Garden and its wide-ranging subject matters is essential - including decorating, design, architecture, art, gardens, travel, food and wine. There will also be opportunities to contribute editorially to both the magazine and website.

What will you be doing?

  • Sub-editing and proofreading all editorial content with precision, including fact-checking and sensitive rewriting to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Crafting headlines, sells and captions that reflect House & Garden’s distinctive editorial voice and style.
  • Supporting the Chief Sub-Editor and Deputy Chief Sub-Editor in the day-to-day editorial workflow.
  • Managing a busy workload efficiently and independently, while meeting tight weekly and monthly production deadlines.

About you

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and InCopy.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced editorial environment.
  • A flair for language and a sharp eye for detail.

  • You’ll have access to a competitive pension scheme, season ticket loans and eye tests.
  • We offer a range of tools to support your wellbeing, including core hours, 10 remote working days (from home or a country with a Condé Nast office location), access to our Employee Assistance Programme, corporate gym membership and cycle to work scheme.
  • You’ll enjoy discounts and magazine subscriptions, keeping you up to date with all things Condé Nast.
  • We encourage personal and professional growth through the Condé Nast Learning Hub where you’ll find an extensive portfolio of learning courses and training, available in local languages.
  • Our Employee Resource Groups provide a platform for employees to identify shared objectives, exchange ideas, and work on community priorities for our global workforce.
