About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Strategy Director to play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the growth strategy across our portfolio, with a particular focus on our Academic and Government segment.

This is a high‑impact role for an established strategic leader. You will work at the intersection of market insight, product strategy, and corporate development, helping to define where and how we compete, guiding product direction, and identifying the most compelling opportunities for sustainable growth in a fast‑evolving, data‑driven market.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development & Execution: Lead the development of portfolio and product level strategies for our solutions and primary content across our Academic and Government segment. Translate strategic intent into actionable roadmaps and initiatives that drive measurable impact.

  • Portfolio and Product Strategy & Roadmap: Partner closely with the Product Leadership Team to shape product strategies and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with portfolio strategy, customer needs, and market opportunities

  • Competitive Intelligence: Continuously monitor and analyse the competitive landscape, identifying potential threats and opportunities (e.g. for partnerships / M&A), and developing strategies to maintain and enhance our competitive advantage

  • Market Assessment & Opportunity Identification:  Conduct rigorous market and customer analysis to identify unmet needs, emerging use cases, and adjacencies. Bring structured evaluation and sizing to strategic opportunities, making recommendations grounded in commercial and operational feasibility

  •  Lead Strategic Initiatives & Projects: Lead and manage multiple high-impact strategic initiatives aimed at driving growth, such as growth opportunity assessments, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) screens, and strategic partnership evaluations

  • Stakeholder Management & Communication: Build strong, trusted relationships with senior leaders across product, commercial and strategy teams. Clearly and persuasively communicate strategic insights and recommendations to executive‑level stakeholders and external partners

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Business, Economics, Engineering) / an advanced degree in relevant business / scientific field (MBA, MSc, PhD) is advantageous

  • Director / Engagement Manager-level experience from a strategy consulting firm or equivalent experience in a high-performing in-house strategy or corporate development team

  • Demonstrated ability to own and solve complex, ambiguous strategic problems, synthesising insight from multiple sources into clear strategic direction

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with a track-record of linking strategy to revenue growth, portfolio performance, and investment decisions

  • Deep experience working with software, data and/or analytics‑driven businesses or products desirable

  • Intellectual curiosity about data, research, and public sector ecosystems, with the ability to translate domain insight into commercial strategy

  • Proven credibility operating with senior leadership in a global, matrixed environment.

Boasting one of the most recognized fintech ecosystems in Europe, attracting billions in investments each year, London's success has made it a go-to destination for startups looking to make their mark. Top U.K. companies like Hoptin, Moneybox and Marshmallow have already made the city their base — yet fintech is just the beginning. From healthtech to renewable energy to cybersecurity and beyond, the city's startups are breaking new ground across a range of industries.
