About Motorway

Motorway is the UK’s fastest-growing used car marketplace – our award winning, online-only platform connects private car sellers with over 7,500 verified dealers nationwide, who compete to offer the best price. Founded in 2017, our technology makes the process refreshingly easy, earning us an 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating with over 70,000 reviews. We're not just building a platform; we're changing how people sell cars.

Backed by leading investors like Index Ventures and ICONIQ Growth, and following a successful $190 million funding round, we're on a mission to transform the used car market.

The role

Motorway operates a two-sided marketplace, serving both Sellers and Dealers. This role sits at the heart of the Dealer side of the business.

We’re looking for a Strategic Account Management (SAM) Team Manager. Our SAM team manages and grows relationships with our most important dealer partners. These are high-value dealers who buy significant volumes through the marketplace and play a critical role in our commercial performance.

You will lead a team of Strategic Account Managers who manage our top dealer accounts. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set clear expectations, build strong operating rhythms, coach for performance, and work cross-functionally to turn strategy into results.

You will bring significant experience in sales and account management, alongside a strong track record of leading high-performing, client-facing teams. You will own key processes and initiatives, work closely with cross-functional partners, and drive results through clear accountability, 1-to-1 coaching, and focused development.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help Motorway on our mission of building a better car market for tomorrow. This role is based in London, but will require travel to Brighton once per week (which can be expensed) .

The Strategic Account Management Team Manager role will involve:

  • Leadership of Strategic Account Managers to hit defined goals.

  • Setting and running the team’s operating rhythm, including planning, forecasting, pipeline discipline, and reviews.

  • Driving growth and retention across our top dealer partners, with a focus on long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.

  • Holding the team accountable for outcomes, using data to diagnose issues and drive improvement.

  • Coaching and developing managers through regular 1-to-1s, deal reviews, and targeted development plans.

  • Being the “voice of the dealer” and “voice of the team” in senior leadership forums

  • Working closely with Product, Ops, Marketing, Finance and Sales Ops to ensure alignment and effective execution.

  • Defining and improving processes as the business scales into 2026.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience at leading and managing client-facing teams to deliver to targets

  • Experience running structured operating rhythms and performance cadences.

  • Experience in using CRM technology to track performance and identify opportunities

  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management and development.

  • A polished, confident and professional communication and presentational style

  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Data analysis skills with a passion for making decisions based on real life data

  • Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the business and at senior management level
