Nium, the Leader in Real-Time Global Payments

Nium, the leading global infrastructure for real-time cross-border payments, was founded on the mission to deliver the global payments infrastructure of tomorrow, today. With the onset of the global economy, its payments infrastructure is shaping how banks, fintechs, and businesses everywhere collect, convert, and disburse funds instantly across borders. Its payout network supports 100 currencies and spans 190+ countries, 100 of which in real-time. Funds can be disbursed to accounts, wallets, and cards and collected locally in 40 markets. Nium's growing card issuance business is already available in 34 countries. Nium holds regulatory licenses and authorizations in more than 40 countries, enabling seamless onboarding, rapid integration, and compliance – independent of geography. The company is co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore.

As Product Manager – Card Processing, you will own the transaction processing engine that powers Nium’s card issuance platform. From authorisation through to clearing, settlement, ledger posting, reconciliation, and chargebacks—you will design, build, and optimise the systems that keep card transactions flowing securely and efficiently around the globe.

This is a hands-on product role for a technically fluent leader who can translate scheme bulletins into user stories, write precise interface specs for developers, and partner with internal teams to deliver robust card processing capabilities at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end processing roadmap – authorisation, clearing, settlement, ledger posting, reconciliation and charge-back flows.
  • Translate scheme bulletins into processor requirements – map new authorisation fields, clearing record-types and fee codes into sprint-ready tickets on bulletin release.
  • Design resilient transaction flows – define fallback logic (stand-in, dual-message reversal), time-outs and fraud rule triggers to keep approvals high and losses low.
  • Lead processor & core-ledger integrations – write detailed interface specs for new (or updated) integrations
  • Partner with Programme Manager & Solution Engineering – ensure new programmes inherit proven processing patterns, meet scheme certification scripts first time and reuse existing digital wallets and KYC flows.
  • Monitor live processing KPIs – approval ratio, average latency, mismatch rate, interchange yield; trigger incident post-mortems when thresholds are breached.
  • Stay two releases ahead – maintain a processing change backlog aligned to Visa/Mastercard release calendars.

Requirements

  • 8 years of product management experience in card issuing or transaction processing, ideally within a fast-paced fintech or payments environment.
  • Deep understanding of card scheme protocols (Visa/Mastercard), transaction lifecycles, and ISO8583-based messaging.
  • Strong track record of writing technical specifications and working closely with engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable systems.
  • Experience integrating with third-party processors, payment gateways, and/or ledger systems.
  • Analytical mindset with a passion for monitoring KPIs and driving data-informed improvements.
  • Comfortable managing roadmaps aligned to both business strategy and mandatory regulatory/scheme changes.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skill.
  • Based in Malta or open to relocation (full relocation package provided).
