About the role 

 

The successful candidate will work on a world leading external training platform, designed to help organisations deliver scalable programmes to customers, partners, and wider audiences. They will help design and develop exciting new platform features, ensuring best practice is maintained and adoption of the latest techniques and practises in software development are in use across the development teams.

Working on complex development issues and making design decisions to ensure the platform features are best in class and performant. Helping to improve engineer skills and staying up-to-date on technical knowledge by attending education workshops, classes and reading publications. 

Additionally, we expect you to be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and interesting way.  The goal is to ensure we continue to develop our people and platforms to meet organisational objectives.

 

What you will be doing 

Roles and responsibilities include:

 

  • Working closely with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and help translate these into technical requirements for the development team
  • Planning and documenting technical specifications for features or system design

  • Designing, building and configuring applications to meet business process and application requirements

  • Directing the development team in the design, development, coding, testing and debugging of applications

  • Writing testable, scalable and efficient code and leading code reviews

  • Line managing, coaching and mentoring team members and ensuring they adhere to determined software quality standards 

  • Have an innovative approach to problem solving

  • Set technical direction for the team

  • Agile approach to delivery ensuring value can be visualised early

  • Focus on continuous improvement to deliver additional value for our customers, business and working practices

  • Promote collaboration and engagement

  • Guide, advise and institute process to ensure control of technical debt

  • Institute processes and monitoring to ensure code review health

  • Work across teams to provide architectural guidance and design core components for use across products

  • Analyse and recommend best solutions to complex system designs considerations

  • Present design and architectural solutions to Director / C-level

 

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

 

  • Backend expertise: You will have expert technical skills in software development, with proficiency in Javascript (Node) and PHP (Laravel) .
  • UI framework knowledge: You will have strong knowledge of modern UI frameworks such as React, Vue.js, AngularJS, or similar.

  • Database knowledge: You will have strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or a similar relational database system.

  • Performance design: You will have experience designing for performance and using a methodical approach to identify and resolve performance issues.

  • Architectural knowledge: You will have sound architecture knowledge and proven experience applying this in the delivery of software solutions.

  • Architectural direction: You will have a track record of providing architectural and technical direction for software products.

  • Team leadership: You will have experience leading the team direction, including the performance management of engineers, and guiding software delivery from ideation through to production. 

  • Cross-team leadership: You will have experience providing technical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple development teams and projects simultaneously.

  • Proven delivery: You will have a strong track record in developing and delivering enterprise-level products.

  • Product enthusiasm: You will have a genuine enthusiasm for developing web-based and SaaS solutions.

  • Customer focus: You will have a strong customer-centric approach, ensuring that solutions deliver real value to end users.

  • Coding excellence: You will have excellent coding experience, techniques, and skills.

  • Communication skills: You will have the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

  • Motivation and quality: You will be highly motivated, results-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes.
