Job Description

What will I be doing?

This is a hybrid role, combining remote work with in-office collaboration. The successful candidate will work from home while also spending time in our office as needed to engage with colleagues and stakeholders. They will collaborate closely with teams based in the UK, Bulgaria, and India, working across different time zones to ensure seamless communication and effective service delivery.

As part of the role, you will be required to provide on-call support outside of normal office hours monthly, which includes overnight and weekend work. Your contributions during these times will be acknowledged and rewarded.

As a Database Administrator, you will provide ongoing delivery and support for well-recognised clients worldwide. You will be communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational colleagues to ensure database integrity and security. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity, availability and security.
  • Monitoring and managing SQL Server databases (including Azure SQL Database & Managed Instance) to ensure optimal availability, security and performance.
  • Implement and manage critical maintenance tasks including backups and integrity checks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents in line with SLAs.
  • Query tuning and performance optimisation.
  • Installation and configuration of SQL Server and SQL Server components.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities and upgrades.
  • Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionaries.
  • Carrying out capacity planning.
  • Managing the security and disaster recovery aspects of databases
  • Acting as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor on SQL Server and data for customers.

Qualifications

What experience/skills do I need?

Key Skills:

  • Experience working in a similar role
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Experience working in an environment using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and T-SQL
  • Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
  • Willingness to learn based on feedback
  • Ability to identify opportunities and issues
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with Azure SQL Databases
  • Knowledge of Azure Infrastructure
  • Experience using Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence Database design principles and tools
