Job summary

This is an analyst position within the Exposure Management function, focusing on Political Violence and Political / Credit Risk classes of business, with the potential to support other Specialty lines.

The role provides analytical and data management support to the underwriting function through the capture, cleansing and structuring of exposure data. These exposures will be utilised within modelling and aggregation tools to monitor accumulations and assess risk against the company’s risk appetite.

The Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness and consistency of data and analytics, supporting underwriters in the understanding and management of their portfolios. The role will also contribute to the development and enhancement of processes, tools and methodologies used to assess and report Political risk exposures.

Main duties   
  • Capture, cleanse and structure Political Violence and Political / Credit Risk exposure data into formats suitable for aggregation and modelling tools

  • Review underwriting submissions and supporting information, liaising with underwriters and brokers to obtain required exposure data

  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy and consistency of exposure data used within modelling and reporting processes

  • Monitor Political accumulations against defined risk appetite and highlight areas of concern

  • Produce management information, reports and analytical outputs to support underwriting decision-making and portfolio management

  • Investigate data discrepancies and resolve data quality issues across systems and datasets

  • Support the use and validation of aggregation and modelling tools used for Political lines

  • Assist in the development and enhancement of processes, tools and methodologies for managing Political exposures

  • Work closely with underwriters to understand portfolios, priorities and evolving risk exposures

  • Support reporting requirements for internal stakeholders, committees and external regulatory returns where required

  • Ensure processes, controls and methodologies are clearly documented and kept up to date

  • Work closely with senior team members to deliver against team priorities and deadlines

Additional responsibilities
  • Participating in the wider activities of the Exposure Management Team

  • From time to time, taking part in the relevant projects through the wider business

  • Keeping up to date with Political Violence and Political / Credit Risk developments in the Catastrophe Management field

  • Performing other related duties to meet the on-going needs of the organisation

Experience, Skills and QualificationsExperience

Desirable

  • Understanding of the London (re)insurance market

  • Exposure to analytical, data-driven or research-focused roles (university projects acceptable)

  • Interest in Political Violence, Political / Credit Risk or other man‑made catastrophe risks

  • Experience working with datasets or conducting structured research

Skills

  • Strong numeracy skills and analytical ability

  • Excellent attention to detail in a data‑heavy environment

  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing tasks

  • Confident communicator, able to interact with Underwriters and other stakeholders

  • Comfortable presenting data clearly and articulating insights

  • Strong written skills for documentation and research summaries

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Proactive mindset with willingness to investigate data gaps and improve processes

  • Ability to co‑ordinate work across multiple team

Desirable
  • Understanding of statistical methodologies or catastrophe modelling concepts

  • Experience with SQL, Python, R or other data tools

  • Knowledge of insurance terminology and policy structures

  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools

Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level preferred but not essential for an excellent candidate
