Job Description

Managing a small team, the sourcing and supply manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and selecting suppliers by developing sourcing strategies, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships and performance, and ensuring cost-effective procurement of goods and services. Ultimately aiming to optimize the supply chain and achieve cost savings and quality improvement.

The sourcing and supply manager works closely with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and identify potential suppliers that meet quality and delivery requirements while maintaining competitive pricing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Market research and supplier identification: Conducting market analysis to identify potential suppliers, assess their capabilities, and evaluate their pricing and quality standards. 
  • Category strategy development: Defining sourcing strategies for specific product or service categories, considering cost, quality, delivery time, and risk factors. 
  • Supplier evaluation and selection: Establishing supplier qualification criteria, conducting due diligence, and selecting the most suitable suppliers based on established criteria. 
  • Contract negotiation: Leading contract negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms on price, payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards. 
  • Supplier relationship management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers, addressing issues, and collaborating on continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Cost analysis and optimization: Analyzing spend data to identify cost-saving opportunities, implementing cost reduction strategies, and negotiating price reductions with suppliers. 
  • Risk management: Identifying potential supply chain risks, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring business continuity. 
  • Performance monitoring and reporting: Tracking supplier performance against key metrics, identifying areas for improvement, and reporting on sourcing activities to stakeholders. 
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Working with internal teams like engineering, operations, and quality control to ensure alignment on sourcing requirements. 

The Individual

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, supply chain management, or a related field 
  • Proven experience in procurement and sourcing roles, ideally with a focus on specific commodity categories
  • Proven experience in the following sectors: industrial or automation or oil & gas
  • Strong negotiation skills: Ability to effectively negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers 
  • Analytical skills: Data analysis and interpretation to identify cost-saving opportunities 
  • Market knowledge: Understanding of market trends, supplier landscape, and industry dynamics 
  • Project management skills: Ability to manage projects from initiation to completion 
  • Communication skills: Effective communication with both internal stakeholders and suppliers
  • Relationship building: Developing and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Procurement expertise: Understanding of procurement processes, contracts, and compliance
