What you will do
- Lead the end-to-end RAN design for customer opportunities, bids, and transformation programmes and contribute into the solutioning process.
- Analyse customer requirements and translate them into robust technical solution designs, architecture artefacts, and design deliverables.
- Define solution design alternatives, assumptions, dependencies, and trade-offs across performance, cost, rollout complexity, and operational impact.
- Act as the senior technical authority for RAN design within assigned opportunities and support technical governance throughout the lifecycle.
- Develop high-level and detailed solution designs (HLD/LLD) covering radio architecture, hardware choices, site solutions, design principles, integration aspects, deployment considerations and E2E impact.
- Produce Detailed Designs for RAN Hardware, including Radio node configurations (eg. Hardware BOM, equipment layouts and connectivity diagrams for baseband/radio/antenna sub-system)
- Produce Detailed Designs for RAN Software & Features, including detailed mobility and parameter design
- Produce Radio coverage design for special indoor / outdoor systems (eg Enterprise designs)
- Support the New Product Introduction, including requirements for lab test and FSI (First Site Integration) into the customer network
- Produce Ericsson specific solution designs, design documentation, supporting documents (design guidelines, planning guidelines, gating guidelines etc)
- Support internal delivery processes such as HW/SW?HW Licenses ordering
- Ensure the proposed solution design is aligned with the company portfolio, approved design rules, standard processes, and customer-specific requirements.
- Work closely with sales and commercial teams to support bid strategy, technical positioning, compliance responses, scope definition, and cost-effective solution development as well as support various presales activities such as RFI, RFP, change requests and customer offer preparation.
- Engage with customer technical teams to present solution proposals, lead workshops, resolve clarifications, and build confidence in the proposed design.
- Collaborate with other domains such as transport, core, cloud, OSS, security, and services to ensure end-to-end solution design alignment.
- Support handover into delivery by ensuring the solution design is clear, governed, and ready for execution with minimal ambiguity and reduced downstream risk.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of solution design methods, design templates, reusable assets, and governance practices.
- Mentor less experienced architects and engineers and contribute to technical capability building within the organisation.
- The role requires occasional traveling within UKI to customer sites, Ericsson sites and partner sites
The skills you bring
- Strong expertise in RAN architecture and design, with practical experience across 4G and 5G solutions.
- Strong understanding of radio network evolution, capacity and coverage principles, hardware configurations, site solutions and deployment constraints.
- Hands on knowledge of products and technology in one or more of the following product areas:-
- Expert level knowledge of Ericsson Radio System products (ERS)
- Expert level proficiency in Ericsson RAN Software & Features
- Expert level knowledge of 5G & LTE
- Expert level understanding of 2G,3G,4G & 5G Air interface standards, protocols and propagation characteristics
- Expert level knowledge of macro/small cell/indoor coverage design concepts and planning tools such as Planet, IBWave, Ericsson Indoor Planner
- Hands on knowledge of products and technology in one or more of the following product areas:-
- Ability to define end-to-end technical solutions in a complex multi-domain environment.
- Experience in customer-facing technical discussions, workshops, and governance forums.
- Strong knowledge of telecom solutioning in a large vendor, operator, or system integration environment.
- Experience of RAN Swap and RAN refresh projects
- Familiarity with Site Engineering, Installation Engineering knowledge is beneficial
- Experience of new product introduction, lab testing and field trial
- Ability to balance technical, commercial, and delivery considerations in solution design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to different audiences.
- Strong problem-solving capability and a structured approach to risk identification and resolution.
- Strong stakeholder management and experience working in complex matrix organisations across multiple stakeholders, functions, and geographies both internally and externally.
- High level of accountability, collaboration, and business understanding.
- UK Driving license
To be successful in the role you must have
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field or the equivalent theoretical background acquired through experience and/or in any other way
- Technical certification (such as ETCP, external certification etc. ) in relevant Portfolio Competence
- Extensive experience in telecoms, with significant exposure to RAN solution design, architecture, or engineering.
- Proven experience in a senior technical role within a large telecom vendor or equivalent environment.
- Strong knowledge of 4G/LTE and 5G RAN technologies, deployment models, and network transformation programmes.
- Experience supporting large bids, customer opportunities, or strategic programmes with technical solution leadership.
- Experience producing architecture documentation, design deliverables, technical assumptions, and risk assessments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience interacting with both internal and customer senior technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while leading collaboration across multiple functions.
It would be nice if you also have
- Experience with Open RAN, cloud RAN, or virtualised network architectures.
- Experience in private networks, enterprise solutions, or indoor/small cell environments.
- Familiarity with services delivery, rollout, or operational acceptance processes.
- Knowledge of telecom security and regulatory requirements relevant to RAN solution design.
- Understanding of commercial models, bid processes, and solution costing inputs.
