Position Overview

Autodesk seeks a civil/structural engineer interested in taking a sidestep in career to a software quality assurance role and become a part of the team focused on Structural Analysis and Design in Autodesk’s portfolio of products. In this role you can help Autodesk users imagine and design a better world with contributing to redesign of tools and workflows for civil engineers, within the area of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. Our products are used by architects, engineers, and other building industry professionals to design everything from the world’s tallest skyscrapers, largest airports, and new landmarks to homes and businesses that you visit every day.

Autodesk engineering team brings intelligence and efficiency to the building design and development process by solving complex software problems and responding to current and future needs of our users.

The position is based in our Krakow office, employing a hybrid working model, and involves collaboration with globally dispersed organization. Your responsibilities will range across the stack as you work with the product owner, experience designer, and other engineers to develop and maintain Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the development team on solution design to proactively recognize and prevent issues from developing. Test features to ensure they will interact correctly with other features in production.
  • Provide input into feature design, in particular on the feasibility of features from the customer perspective. Simulate user experience and give feedback to product designers on design improvements.
  • Create test cases based on real-world application of software in engineering work, to test individual functionality or the entire workflows.
  • Create and maintain plans to test features or whole products at the user interface level, including functional tests, performance tests, workflow tests, install tests, globalization, and interoperability tests.
  • Document test design, test plans, and test results.
  • Ensure that test plans are usable by others. Participate in test plan reviews with the rest of the QA and development team.
  • Manually execute test plans to find defects in features or products. Isolate and confirm defects and work with development to prioritize defects and fix them.
  • Record and maintain automatic regression tests (possibly using internal test automation frameworks).
  • Log defects in the database for tracking and reporting. Inspect defect reports received from other sources (customers, product support) and confirm and track specific issues for use by development.
  • Estimate, plan, schedule, and coordinate software testing tasks for themselves and others. Participate in the software estimation process (effort/time).
  • Monitor customer newsgroups to detect defects in production software. Use knowledge of product and users to provide feedback to Product Management regarding the severity and customer impact of defects on the report in order to prioritize a fix.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related subject area.
  • 2+ years’ experience in structural engineering practice (analysis and design)
  • Working experience with BIM and Structural Analysis and Design software.
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative and dynamic environment with colleagues around the world.
  • Excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Strong planning, self-organization and time management skills.

  • Familiar with various structural analysis and design products on the market
  • Experience in fast-paced product delivery and agile practices (possibly in software industry)
  • Hands-on experience in software quality assurance.
  • Interest in career sidestep to software engineering test automation.
  • Customer oriented mindset acting proactively on behalf of users.
  • Curious and fast learner.
  • Methodical and attentive to detail.
