Lead and grow a cross-disciplinary software team building embedded C++/CUDA, GUI, and firmware for a Class C medical device. Own technical roadmap, architecture, and delivery from prototype to production, ensure compliance with medical device standards, collaborate with hardware and clinical teams, and manage external partners while maintaining hands-on code and design review responsibilities.

At CoMind, we are developing a non-invasive neuromonitoring technology that will result in a new era of clinical brain monitoring. In joining us, you will be helping to create cutting-edge technologies that will improve how we diagnose and treat brain disorders, ultimately improving and saving the lives of patients across the world.

The Role:

The Software team at CoMind spans the full stack of a regulated medical device company — from embedded and real-time systems through application software, ML inference, GUI, DevOps, and test engineering. It is a team that builds across every layer, working to medical device software standards and shipping software that has to perform reliably in clinical environments.

This is the leadership role for the product software stack. You will manage and develop a team of software engineers working across embedded C++, GUI, and firmware, set priorities and development plans, drive delivery from prototype to production release, and own the software architecture and technical direction. It is a people-first role with sustained hands-on technical involvement: you will lead design and code reviews and hold the bar for engineering quality across the team's output.

At CoMind, all team members work at least 4 days per week in the office, plus a flexible work-from-home day. This role is based in our London (Kings Cross) office.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and mentor a team of software engineers working across embedded C++/CUDA, GUI, and embedded linux, setting priorities, individual development plans, conducting performance reviews, and maintaining a high standard of engineering practice

  • Own the technical roadmap for the product software stack, from the C++/CUDA host application and real-time processing pipeline, aligning with product and system requirements

  • Lead design and architecture reviews across the software stack, ensuring quality, consistency, and sound technical decisions

  • Drive software from prototype through to production release, managing dependencies with the FPGA, electronics, optical, and clinical teams

  • Ensure software development complies with IEC 62304 (Class C), IEC 60601-1, and ISO 14971, maintaining documentation and traceability in line with CoMind's QMS

  • Partner with the DevOps, Test & Cloud Engineering Manager on CI/CD, release processes, test strategy, and quality gates

  • Support system integration, hardware bring-up, and on-target performance validation from a software perspective

  • Manage external development partners and contractors where required, ensuring effective execution and resource utilisation

  • AI is fundamental to our culture. It is not just a tool but a core part of how we work, collaborate, and innovate. We expect all team members to embrace AI in their daily work and continuously find new ways to use it effectively

Skills & Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or team lead role

  • Proven experience leading and growing high-performing software teams, with the ability to set direction and develop engineers

  • Hands-on background in embedded and real-time software development, including C/C++ on embedded Linux

  • Strong software architecture and system design experience for resource-constrained or safety-critical hardware

  • Experience developing software for medical devices or another regulated industry

  • Experience defining software architectures and owning technical roadmaps from concept through production

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working alongside hardware, electronics, and clinical teams

Nice to have:
  • Experience with real-time signal processing, high-speed data acquisition, or physiological data pipelines

  • Familiarity with CUDA or GPU-accelerated processing pipelines

  • Experience with Flutter/Dart or other embedded GUI frameworks

  • Working knowledge of IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, and ISO 14971

  • Experience with FPGA-software interfaces or hardware abstraction layers

  • Familiarity with Yocto-based embedded Linux and BSP development

Benefits:
  • Company equity plan so all employees share in the success of the company

  • Salary-sacrifice pension scheme

  • Private medical, dental and vision insurance (medical history disregarded)

  • Group life assurance at 4x annual income

  • Comprehensive mental health support, including unlimited access to 1:1 sessions with trained professionals

  • Unlimited holiday allowance (+ bank holidays) and one week of remote working per quarter

  • Lunch voucher (£10) every day for JustEat and free dinner on those days where you need to work later

  • Twice weekly deliveries of fresh fruit and an extensive selection of snacks and drinks

  • YuLife subscription, allowing you to turn your daily steps and meditation into discounts at a range of stores
