About Tracer

Many scientists struggle to debug computational workflows, slowing scientific breakthroughs like drug development that could help millions of people. We're building an advanced observability platform for scientific high-performance computing to solve this challenge. Backed by $3M in funding, we're assembling our founding team to accelerate. Ready to make an impact?

Your Mission

As a Software Engineering Intern, you'll help build our core observability platform alongside our technical staff. You'll write production code, execute architecture changes, and assist solving our most complex engineering challenges. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates who want to shape the technical foundations of the platform while having a direct impact on the product.

In-person interns are preferred. However, for remote candiates, we’re looking for interns who can collaborate effectively within UK/EU time zones, including availability during EU/UK evening hours for occasional technical team meetings. The position is ideal for candidates based in Europe, the UK, South America, or the US, or anyone with availability that overlaps significantly with UK/EU working hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement & adapt core platform features:

    • Data ingestion connectors

    • Logs management systems

    • Observability interfaces

    • Error resolution tools

  • Execute architecture changes

  • Collaborate with teams to align technical solutions with business goals

  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence by implementing proven best practices in day-to-day development

Key Skills and Experience

  • Pursuing or having completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • Demonstrated success in tackling complex engineering challenges through academic projects and personal coding initiatives

  • Interest in low-level programming like Rust, C, or other technologies

  • Interest in high-performance computing, observability, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, or data science

  • Ability to leverage open-source architectures to accelerate development

  • Thrives in fast-paced environments while managing multiple priorities

  • Brings a strong product mindset, ensuring technical solutions align with business priorities

Our Tech Stack

  • Rust: We prioritise speed and efficiency for our core systems

  • Nextflow & AlphaFold: Optimized for HPC and advanced AI workloads for drug discovery

  • AWS + Terraform: Automated, scalable infrastructure for seamless deployment

  • eBPF and techniques like dynamic library rewriting, monkey patching, and runtime adjustments

PS. Experience with our stack is valued but not required - we prioritise strong engineering fundamentals and quick learners.

Interview Process

  • Initial call with our Talent team to kick things off

  • Intro call + technical assessment with our Founding Engineer

  • Final call with founders
