The position

Hottinger, Bruel & Kjaer (HBK) Inc. is a global leader providing technical expertise, engineering software products, and services to deliver reliability, durability and performance enhancing solutions. Known in particular for our ReliaSoft and nCode software, our range of engineering solutions deliver compelling value to our customers for the design and development of reliable, robust systems, and reduce life cycle costs.

We are currently searching for a Software Engineer to be based in the UK, working remotely with our wider Web Development Team located in Tucson, United States.

HBK has office locations in the UK and working from the office is also possible should this be desired. Some US travel opportunities may be available.

Primary responsibilities

This position is responsible for applying technical expertise in software development for ReliaSoft applications. This will include resolving technical problems and providing clients with highly innovative solutions. You will be expected to show initiative in completing individual tasks, but also help the team achieve overall objectives.

Your daily work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Applying expertise in software development for ReliaSoft applications
  • Working with the team to provide software solutions for complex technical problems
  • Working with the team to continuously optimize department processes and procedures
  • Participating in paired programming sessions
  • Reviewing software code for technical competency and adequacy
  • Attending daily meetings remotely, with the US based team.
  • Producing documentation related to the design, functionality and release of software artifacts
  • Utilizing Agile software development methodologies

Technology stack

The ideal candidate would have some experience with the following technologies and tools:

  • Frontend Development:
    • Knowledge working with TypeScript
    • Knowledge working with React and libraries like Material-UI (MUI), React Query/TanStack Query, and React Hook Form (would be a plus).
    • Knowledge working with Webstorm (would be a plus)
    • Responsive design implementation
    • Mob and/or Paired programming (would be a plus)
  • Backend Development:
    • Knowledge of server-side programming languages like, C#/.NET (preferred),Node.js or Python (would be a plus)
    • Knowledge working with ASP.net Core (preferred) and Entity Framework Core (preferred)
    • Knowledge working with Rider (would be a plus)
    • Knowledge working with RESTful APIs (preferred)
  • Cloud Development:
    • Proficiency with GitHub (preferred) for version control and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Familiarity with Docker tools (would be a plus)
  • Testing and Quality Assurance:
    • Knowledge working within Test frameworks (xUnit, Vitest, and Playwright would be a plus)
    • Experience writing Unit Tests (Preferred), and best practices for integration and performance testing (would be a plus)
  • Databases:
    • Familiarity with relational databases (preferred) and non-relational databases (would be a plus)
  • DevOps and CI/CD:
    • Knowledge working with Observability tools like Grafana (would be a plus)
    • Experience with Agile workflows and tracking tools like Jira.
  • Security:
  • Familiarity of security best practices in web development.

Professional qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience designing web based applications
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum development would be good, but not required
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and initiative
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment

Working Hours:

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Flexible hours: Monday to Friday - Employees supporting U.S. operations should adjust their hours as required to meet business needs
